[Genetics] 50 cm capillaries

Hi all sequencer-users!

I just wanted to remind everybody about the possibility to use also
longer 50 cm capillaries instead of 35 cm ones. With long run-time and
long capillaries, it is possible to get about 900 bp good sequence. You
just need to specify that in sample sheet and put it to the correct
folder in ABI-server, otherwise the procedure is the same for both
capillaries. Run takes longer time with long capillaries but on the
other hand you don't need to do as many sequencing reactions or use so
many different primers for sequencing longer srtetches compared to
shorter capillaries. At least in our group using the longer capillaries
has really resulted longer sequences. In some cases you might need to
use more BDT-mix (1/4 reaction has been sufficient for us).

So far the policy has been that capillaries have been changed when there
has been several plates for longer capillaries (there is no point
changing the capillaries for each plate), not more often than once a week.

Hannele is on holiday 23.12.-2.1. and there ABI won't be running during
that time.

Regards
Tanja
