This was definately the most memorable birding year i have had in Estonia since starting birdwatching in 1992. I spent over 1100 hours in field and recorded 263 species, 95,8 % of them self-found. Most of the trips were done during week-ends from Finland. I had normal work routine during the weekdays, so the list could have been actually much longer.</span></i></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><i><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="ET"> </span></i></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><i><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="ET">This has been the only year when i have found two new species for the country – Ring-necked Duck and Long-billed Dowitcher. Other great birds included co-found Great Skua and Sabine’s Gull (both 3rd for Estonia). </span></i></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><i><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="ET">I also managed to twitch<span> </span>the other two new species found for Estonia in 2009 (Water Pipit, Greater Sand Plover). </span></i></p>

<p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial;" lang="ET"><i>Generally i have had really bad birding-karma, but this year was unbelievable and warmly welcomed exception. For example i found Pallid Harrier, Yellow-browed Warbler, Grey Wagtail, Yellow-billed Diver, 7 Little Crakes (2+4+1), Dotterel (flock of 5), Short-toed Eagle, Whiskered Tern (9th for Estonia), Pomarine Skua, Red-crested Pochard, Roller, Kittiwake. All more or less rare birds in Estonian context. </i></span></p>

Kahjuks Sampsa Caireniuse poolt tehtud rekordi kohta avalikkusel info puudub (arvatavasti üle 275) ja latiks seadsin Marguse rekordi</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="ET">Aasta kõrghetkedeks olid Eestile kahe uue liigi leidmised. Lisaks olin Eesti 3. suuränni ja 3. harksaba-kajaka kaasleidja. Vastupidiselt minu suhteliselt kehvale birding-karmale õnnestus leida palju muidki haruldasi liike. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="ET"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="ET">Mitmete eelnevate aastarekordite puhul on olnud kahinaid, et liike pole nähtud piisavalt hästi ja osad vaatlused pole usaldusväärsed (reeglina tegemist pisiraride vaatlustega, mis suuremale avalikkusele huvi ei paku). Proovisin oma standardit võimalikult kõrgel hoida ja kui kaasvaatlejaid (non-birdereid ei arvestatud) polnud, siis üritasin kõik vähegi haruldasemad liigid fotoga dokumenteerida. Vaid üks vaatlus jäi foto ja kaasvaatlejata – must-harksaba Hiiumaal. Lindu nähti siiski 30 minutit enne mind samas paigas (teine vaatleja lahkus alalt) ja samuti järgmisel päeval lind tegutses samas piirkonnas. Liigitabelis näeb iga liigi kohta kas on olnud kaasvaatlejaid või liik on fotoga dokumenteeritud (tavaliste liikide kohta seda ei lisanud). Minu seisukoht on, et seda stiili peaksid ka kõik järgnevad aastarekordi tegijad järgima.</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="FI"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="FI">Töölt end vabaks ei võtnud, kuid sain tööandjaga kokkuleppel vahel nädalavahetusi pikendada. Lisaks tegin aasta jooksul kaks välisretke (umbes 3 nädalat), mis oli aastarekordi aspektist kaotatud aeg. Oluline on siinkohal märkida, et tegin retkeid Soomest, kus perioodil elasin ja töötasin. Kui oleksin kogu aasta vabaks võtnud, Eestis elanud ja kõik bongamised õnnestunud, siis oleks 5-7 liiki rohkem näinud. Seega 275 oleks realistlik eesmärk olnud. Ebaõnn saatis mind bongamistel sageli, kuid ise leitud linnud kompenseerisid need möödalaskmised mitmekordselt. Eelkõige mäletan seda aastat kui superhead spontaanide (255!) aastat ja see on palju enam väärt kui numbri jahtimine bongamiste arvelt. Usun, et nii head rariaastat mul Eestis enam ei tule. Vähemalt mitte selle elu jooksul.</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="ET"></span></p>
