IAHR Media Library- New Addition

A video of the “Wastewater outfall system of Bari East - Bari,
Italy" has been added to the IAHR Media Library
www.iahrmedialibrary.net in the Maritime Hydraulics section. This
movie, videotaped by scuba divers, shows the wastewater outfall
system of Bari East (Bari, Italy), which is composed of a submarine
pipe 900 m long from the shoreline. The hydraulic link between the
treatment plant and the submarine pipeline consists of a reinforced
concrete tunnel with a circular cross section diameter of 1.4 m. Its
length is 2,220 m from the shoreline. Jets at the nozzles are
visible.

dynamics are explored over a range of spatial and temporal scales,
spanning global and continenttal-scale flux rates to detailed,
process-oriented work on small instrumented catchments, with
particular reference to the role of extreme events. The process
links between hydromorphology and ecology are examined and
management-related studies are detailed. The utility of sedimentary
archives for reconstructing long-term catchment sediment fluxes and
elucidating the impact of land use and climate change processes on
sediment delivery and biogeochemical cycling is also a focus. The
critical issue of residence time, especially in relation to channel
storage, is explored. Flume-based hydraulics and microcosm studies
of diffuse pollutant behaviour and other recent developments in
experiment-led research and modelling are reported.
For more

soliton theory plays in fluids in several contexts. After the
initial observation by John Scott Russell of a solitary wave in a
canal, his insightful laboratory experiments and the subsequent
theoretical work of Boussinesq, Rayleigh and Korteweg and de Vries,
interest in solitary waves in fluids lapsed until the mid 1960s with
the seminal paper of Zabusky and Kruskal, which described the
discovery of the soliton. This was followed by the rapid development
of the theory of solitons and integrable systems. At the same time
came the realization that solitary waves occur naturally in many
physical systems, and play a fundamental role in many
circumstances.
For more information <A
