<div dir="ltr"><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12.8px"><span lang="EN-GB">On Wednesday 4<sup>th</sup> of November 2015 the Student Union organises two elections. That is the day when you, the students, elect the student representatives to the Faculty Boards and the members of the OYY Student Council.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12.8px"><span lang="EN-GB"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12.8px"><span lang="EN-GB">Now is the time to decide to run as a candidate because the election documents should be filled in and returned to the Student Union’s office <b>no later than Wednesday 14<sup>th</sup> of October at 12 noon</b>. By standing as a candidate you have the possibility to have a say in the University’s and in the Student Union’s future and to make the students’ voice heard. As a student representative of the Faculty Board or as a Student Council member, you will also get important and useful experience, for example, in financial planning and developing your argumentation skills. Do not hesitate to run for a seat in either the Student Council or the Faculty Boards: the Student Union will give all elected representatives and members a briefing on the essential information needed to succeed in the tasks.</span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Times"></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12.8px"><span lang="EN-GB"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12.8px"><span lang="EN-GB"><b>What elections?</b></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12.8px"><span lang="EN-GB"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12.8px"><span lang="EN-GB">The Faculty Boards are responsible, for example, for approving the action and financial plan of the faculty. The Faculty Boards consist of university staff and 1 to 3 student representatives who are elected for a two year term. The student representatives elected this autumn will start their term 1<sup>st</sup> of January 2016.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12.8px"><span lang="EN-GB"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12.8px"><span lang="EN-GB">The Student Council consists of 37 members and their substitutes. The Student Council is the highest decision-making body of the student union. The Student Council approves the financial plan of the Student Union and, for instance, decides how much the Student Union membership should be. The Council also recruits the Editor-in-chief of the Oulu Student Magazine as well as the Secretary General of the Student Union. In addition, the Student Council elects the Executive Board of the Student Union for their one year term. The Student Council holds 8 to 10 meetings a year, and the members have a term of two years, beginning in mid November after the elections.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12.8px"><span lang="EN-GB"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:12.8px"><span lang="EN-GB">All members of the Student Union are eligible to stand as a candidate and to vote in the elections.
