<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Course outline: Remote sensing applications are developing fast in hydrology, environmental sciences and civil engineering to observe and analyse earth surface processes, land forms and structures. The PhD short course
provides an introduction to the topic through lectures on theory and applications. Different observation methods are presented (satellites, drones, helicopter fights) that can be used to study water and environment related phenomena at different scales from
small scale processes in wetlands, rivers and mining environments to large scale processes in catchments at regional and continental scale. Relevant, ongoing research projects at University of Oulu, Water Resources and Environmental Engineering Research Unit
will be presented. Key note lectures will be presented by an invited expert from University of Stuttgart with experience on the application of spaceborne geodetic sensors in hydrology. The course is open to researchers, PhD candidates and Master students in
water research, geosciences, ecology, environmental sciences , engineering, etc. Course credits (2 ECTS) are given for attendance and homework exercise on remote sensing techniques and databases (for own study case or other cases to be decided).<o:p></o:p></span></p>
