Thanks To Scandinavia Henrik Wergeland and Johan Jørgen Holst Summer Study Scholarships 2004
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is pleased to announce the "Thanks To Scandinavia" (TTS) Scholarships for students from the Scandinavian countries for participation in the Rothberg International School's Summer Program 2004. Scholarships are awarded by the TTS Foundation in New York, now in its 41st year, in memory of Henrik Wergeland - an early 19th century poet and thinker from Norway who, defending Enlightenment thinking, pressed successfully for the legalization of Norwegian citizenship for Norwegian Jews - marking the beginnings of the Jewish community in his country and Johan Jørgen Holst, the late Norwegian Foreign Minister, who led historic efforts to achieve peace between Israel and the Palestinians, as part of the Oslo peace process.
In 2004, eight scholarships will be awarded as follows: two in Denmark, two in Finland, two in Norway and two in Sweden. The sum of each scholarship is US $2,500, of which US $1,750 will be paid directly to the Hebrew University to cover the course tuition fees, University housing and student health insurance. The remaining US $750 will be awarded to the student, to cover part of the travel costs to Israel and living expenses at the Hebrew University.
