Hyvä Yliopisto-opettaja,

tiedoksenne kaksiportaiseen opintotukeen ja kandidaatin tutkintojen valmistumiseen liittyvä info. Pahoittelemme mahdollista päällekkäispostitusta.

Jos opiskelija on aloittanut opinnot 1.8.2011 jälkeen

1. opintotuki myönnetään erikseen alemman ja ylemmän korkeakoulututkinnon suorittamiseen

2. alempaan korkeakoulututkintoon tukea saa korkeintaan 37 kuukautta

3. opintotuki myönnetään ylempää korkeakoulututkintoa varten vasta kun alempi korkeakoulututkinto on suoritettu.

Ensimmäisillä syksyllä 2011 opintonsa aloittaneilla, kesäopintotuet nostaneilla opiskelijoilla 37 opintotukikuukautta tulee täyteen 30.9.2014, jonka jälkeen heidän opintotukensa lakkaa ilman valmista kandidaatin tutkintoa. Mikäli opiskelija on käyttänyt 9 opintotukikuukautta/lukuvuosi, riittää hänen opintotukensa 30.9.2015 saakka kandidaatin tutkinnon tekemiseen.

Perjantaihin 16.5.2014 mennessä syksyllä 2011 opintonsa aloittaneista opiskelijoista alemman korkeakoulututkinnon oli saavuttanut vasta 56 opiskelijaa ja tutkinto puuttui 1112 opiskelijalta. Tässä luvussa eivät ole mukana lääketieteen opiskelijat.

Suurelta osalta opiskelijoista puuttuu vielä jonkin verran kevään 2014 opintoja suoritusrekisteristä, joten alla oleva mediaanikertymätilasto (16.5.2014) on vain suuntaa antava:

Opintojen riittävän etenemisen takaamiseksi koulutusohjelmilta pyydetään seuraavia toimenpiteitä:

1. erityishuomio syksyllä 2011 opintonsa aloittaneiden opinnäytetyön ohjaamiseen, jotta opiskelijat saavat kandidaatin tutkinnon valmiiksi opintotukiraamien puitteissa

2. opetuksen toteuttaminen siten, että kandidaatin tutkinnon voi suorittaa 37 kuukaudessa.

3. opiskelijoita ohjataan tekemään kandidaattivaiheen opinnot ja tutkinto ennen maisterivaiheeseen kuuluvia opintoja, jotta opintotukikuukaudet riittävät alemman korkeakoulututkinnon suorittamiseen

Opiskelijoille, joita kaksiportainen opintotuki koskee, lähetetään viikolla 21 sähköpostiin viesti, jossa heitä pyydetään tarkistamaan, paljonko heiltä puuttuu opintoja kandin tutkinnosta ja riittävätkö jäljellä olevat kandidaatintutkinnon suorittamiseen tarkoitetut opintotukikuukaudet. Opiskelijat voivat tarkistaa opintotukikuukautensa Kelan sähköisestä asiointipalvelusta. Puuttuvien opintojen kohdalla opiskelijat saattavat tarvita neuvontaa koulutusohjelmasta.

Syksyllä 2014 aloittavilla opiskelijoilla opintotukiraami on nykyistä merkittävästi tiukempi eli heillä on käytettävissä 32 opintotukikuukautta alemman korkeakoulututkinnon suorittamiseen.

Dear University Teacher,

For your information two-step financial aid and completing Bachelor’s degree. We are sorry for possible duplicate e-mail messages.

If student has started his/her studies after August 1st, 2011

• student financial aid is granted in two steps, first for the Bachelor's degree and then the Master's degree.

• students have maximum 37 months financial aid available for the Bachelor’s degree

• financial aid for the Master's degree can only be granted after the Bachelor’s degree has been completed

For students who have started their studies in fall 2011 and applied financial aid also for summer months, the expiration date of the financial aid is already on September 30th 2014 if they don’t complete Bachelor’s degree before that. If student has received financial aid 9 months per academic year he/she has time to complete Bachelor’s degree until September 30th, 2015.

Statistics of May 16th, 2014 shows that 56 students who have started their studies during the fall 2011 have so far completed their Bachelor’s degrees. According to this statistics we have 1112 students without Bachelor’s degree even though they have attended every semester since fall 2011 (medical students are excluded from the count).

The median ECTS credit accumulations of the above-mentioned students without Bachelor’s degrees are following:

FACULTY ECTS credits (median) Business 156 Education 162 Humanities 148 Science 153 Technology 152

These statistics are approximate because some ECTS credits from spring term 2014 are not yet registered in OODI.

In study programmes the following actions are required in order to ensure Bachelor’s degrees will be completed in time:

• make sure that there is enough Bachelor’s thesis tutoring, especially for those students who have started their studies in 2011

• organize teaching in such a way that student are be able to complete Bachelor’ s degree within 37 months of financial aid

• guide students to complete Bachelor’ s degree before starting the Master’s studies

Students who have started their studies after August 1st, 2011 will receive email message in week 21. In this message students are asked to find out which study modules are missing from their Bachelor’s degree and check how many months of financial aid they have left for the Bachelor’s degree. Students can check their financial aid situation through KELA’s e-service. If students have problems with the progress of your studies, they might need study guidance in their study programme.

For the students starting their studies fall 2014 the financial aid for Bachelor’s degree is only 32 months.
