How to use isotope laboratory

Dear all, It is probably wise to recirculate some material and instructions. Please, find enclosed as attachment files the instructions for isotope work in our facilities. When you start doing isotope work for the first time in our isotope laboratory, contact me. Dosimeters: I am able to tell whether you need it or not. Groups are going to order and pay them. Health inspection: Law says that when a person starts doing "säteilytyö" i.e. work where you can get radiation in amounts that doses have to be followed you have to go to health inspection before (if you belong to class A) you start working, or at latest after one month when you have started working (class B). No one in our laboratory - at this moment - belongs to class A. All those who will or who should use dosimeters should definitely go to health inspection - if you do not you will break law, without any doubt or question of interpretation. Others: if you are student - not employee -, and/or you will use radiation only very few times, some kind of common sense may be used - but basicly all who work with isotopes should go to the medical check before they start their work. Best wishes Pekka Säteilytyöllä tarkoitetaan säteilyn tai ydinenergian käyttöön liittyvää työtä tai tehtävää, jossa työntekijä voi altistua siinä määrin säteilylle, että työpaikalla on järjestettävä säteilyaltistuksen seuranta.

Oulun Biokemistiseuran vuosikokous

Hei! (This is an advertisement about the annual meeting of local biochemical society - we will choose government for the next year and discuss about future events) Olisitko kiinnostunut toimimaan suomalaisessa biotieteilijöiden yhteisössä? Nyt olisi mahdollisuus tulla tutustumaan Oulun Biokemistiseuran toimintaan. Järjestämme HUOMENNA perjantaina (24.2.) yhdistyksemme sääntömääräisen vuosikokouksen klo 16.30 alkaen Kieppi-rakennuksen kolmannen kerroksen seminaarihuoneessa (338 B). Kokouksen jälkeen on tarjolla ruokaa ja juomaa sekä tietysti keskustelua Biokemistiseuran tulevista tapahtumista. Tilaisuutta sponsoroi Sigma-Aldrich Finland Oy. Strömmerin Mikko yrittää ehtiä työmatkaltaan lausumaan muutaman sanan meille kokouksen jälkeen. Tule paikalle niin pääset tutustumaan seuraamme. Jäseninämme on enimmäkseen biokemistejä ja biologeja - niin nuoria kuin vanhempaakin sukupolvea. Seura on viime vuosina järjestänyt vierailuja (mm. Shaman Spirit Tyrnävällä), harrastustapahtumia (teatteri, rantalentopallo, keilaus) ja keskustelutilaisuuden Oulun bioalan tulevaisuudesta. Samaa linjaa on tarkoitus jatkaa tästä eteenpäin, joten hyviä ideoita esimerkiksi sopivista tutustumiskohteista otetaan vastaan. Jos kiinnostuit, niin lähetä TÄNÄÄN klo 15 mennessä viesti osoitteeseen akarala(a)mail.student.oulu.fi. Tarvitsemme ilmoittautumisen, jotta osaamme varata oikean määrän lämmintä ruokaa.
