In fact, these statements say that these dyes are safe because they cause less mutations (!). Because of this, everyone should from now on adopt the old protocols used for ethidium bromide earlier. This means you need to dry the gels and collect them in special containers as a hazard waste. The running buffers need also to be cleaned e.g. by using charcoal bags. When used, charcoal bags can to be collected into the same containers with the gels and treated as a hazardous waste. To get rid of them, please deliver the full containers into the hazard waste room downstairs. Thanks! Sakari

"Turvakävelyt" safety walks on June 13

Dear BCO-Kieppi people, We will again organize so-called "safety walks" for BCO-Kieppi people who have not yet participated in them. We will walk through our premises and locate the emergency exits, fire alarms, fire extinguishers etc, check the meeting point for emergencies, and talk about safety. Participation to this about 30 min walk is obligatory for everybody. This is organized for your own safety. There are now two possibilities to participate: June 13 in Finnish, starting at 14.00, and in English, starting at 15.00. Starting point for the tours is top of the main staircase 4th floor. Team FutuRena to Helsinki Challenge Finals

Hyvät kolleegat, (In english below) Haluamme Team FutuRenan puolesta kiittää kaikkia jotka äänestivät meitä Helsinki Challenge semifinaalin Pitch Night yleisöäänestyksessä! Sand and dust in the air

Due to the construction work on the south side of the building there is a lot of dust and sand in the air. It is recommended that you do not keep windows open, at least not for longer periods. It is not good for your lungs and the rooms get sandy! Thank you! Hyvät BMTK- ja BCO-kollegat, (IN ENGLISH BELOW) Olemme mukana Team FutuRenassa, johon kuuluu tutkijoita muun muassa Oulun ja Helsingin sekä Aalto-yliopistosta, ja jonka tavoitteena on 3D-tulostaa tutkimuskäyttöön tarkoitettu toimiva minimunuainen. Tiimimme on mukana myös Helsinki Challengen semifinaaleissa. Helsinki Challenge on tiedepohjainen kilpailu, jossa tiimit luovat ratkaisuja YK:n kestävän kehityksen tavoitteisiin. Kilpailu on nyt edennyt vaiheeseen, jossa valitaan finalistit. Kaikki semifinalistit pitchaavat vielä kerran 6.-7.6. järjestettävässä Helsinki Challenge Semifinal Pitch Nights -illoissa. DWA-VÄLINEHUOLTO: Summer time - kesäaika

Hei kaikki Kampuksen välinehuolto palvelee kesällä kattavasti: Koko kesän on vähintään yksi välinehuoltaja molemmissa pisteissä. Viikolla 29 välinehuolto on suljettu keskiviikkona 19.7. Kiepissä on mahdollista pesettää solukaappien osia tällä ja ensi viikolla (vk 23 ja 24) . Viimeinen mahdollinen päivä on 14.6. Pesuista on sovittava erikseen välinehuoltajien kanssa. Kiepissä on 236B huoneen autoklaavin vieressä kalenteri, johon voi tehdä varauksia pesuista ja autoklaavauksesta, mikäli et tavoita välinehuoltajia asian sopimiseksi. Kesäaikana soluviljelykaappien osien pesut ja autoklaavaukset ainoastaan hätätapauksissa (viikot 25-34). Sovittava erikseen! 21.8. jälkeen solukaappien osien pesut ja autoklaavaukset pyörivät molemmissa toimipisteissä normaaliin tapaan tilaamalla. Lämpimämpää kesää ja kesälomia odotellessa välinehuoltoterveisin virpi Dear All The DWA services are available during the summer time in normal manner. There is always one person in charge in both of the DWA units. On week 29, on Wed July 19th the DWA units are closed. On the weeks 25-34 the parts of cell culture incubators are washed only in cases of emergency. Please be in contact with the DWA personnel if you need to clean the cell culture incubators. FYI, information about the use of Cell culture room in FBMM premises. "Dear users of cell culture room L002, due to a sad sequence of reagents' thefts in cell culture we are now forced to restrict the access to said premises. Groups working in the cell culture rooms have been informed and members have a personal authorization. Also, frequent Incucyte users are being added at the moment I write. THIS MEANS THAT, IF YOU CANNOT ACCESS THE ROOM L002, YOU HAVE TO COME TO EITHER ME, JARKKO KOIVUNEN OR RAMAN DEVARAJAN TO OBTAIN ACCESS, AND WE WILL CHECK ON THE GROUNDS OF YOUR REQUEST! It is frankly sad that we have to act so unpleasantly but we were left with no other choices.
