Some safety neglects in laboratories

Dear Kieppi-people, There are some safety neglects in laboratories I have been notified of (with photos). Scalpels (without any protective cover) placed in beakers sharp end up and lying on tables. Needles without and with covers lying on tables. There is no excuse for this. Better laboratory practices are required from everybody, from post docs to trainees and visitors. Do not leave sharp items around. This is to protect those who use these items, others working in the same laboratory, and the cleaning personnel. Please, have a look around and see whether there are things to be improved, and fix them. Thank you! Hei, Kontinkankaan kampuksen professoriluentotilaisuus pidetään torstaina, 9. toukokuuta klo 13.00 alkaen Leena Palotie -salissa. Tilaisuus on LTK:n ja BMTK:n yhteinen, ja kuulemme Lääketieteellisen tiedekunnan edustajana Nina Hautalan esityksen, sekä Biokemian ja molekyylilääketieteen tiedekunnan edustajina Gonghong Wein ja Lauri Eklundin esitykset. Kontinkangas campus professor inauguration lecture event will be arranged on Thursday, May 9 at 13.00 in the Leena Palotie -lecture hall. Image analysis Course - 12-14 June - Turku BioCity

Turku Doctoral Programme in Molecular Medicine (TuDMM) and the Finnish Euro-BioImaging Node is happy to announce a course "Basic Concepts of Bioimage Analysis" taking place in Turku BioCity between 12th-14th of June. The course will start at 12:00 on the 12th of June and complete at 17:00 on the 14th of June. The course is aimed at graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and everyone else who has background in imaging and microscopy and wish to gain additional insights into image analysis. The 3-day course aims to cover the basics of image analysis and ethics involved in image analysis, fundamental concepts including convolution, segmentation, and many others with a hands-on practical component using ImageJ image analysis software working on participants' own image analysis problems. The maximum number of participants is 25 with participants selected based on their imaging background and suitability for the course.
