Hei kaikki, Dear all,
alla ohjeita ja muistutusta tilojen ylläpidosta ja roskien lajittelusta, a general reminder and some instructions about the maintenance of our facilities and waste sorting.
BCO-KIEPPITILOJEN YLEINEN YLLÄPITO, JÄTTEIDEN LAJITTELU JA KIERRÄTYS
KAHVIHUONEET
TOIMISTOT
Huomioithan, että toimistoja ei siivota joka päivä. Siivouspäivät on merkitty ovenpieleen. Toimistoissa on paperikierrätyslaatikko ja yleisroskakori. Toimiston roskakoreihin ei saa laittaa ruokajätteitä, tai niiden pakkauksia, vaan ne on vietävä kahvihuoneen roskakoreihin.
LABORATORIOT
Laboratorioissa on noudatettava erityistä siisteyttä ja järjestystä turvallisuussyistä. Laboratorioroskat kuuluvat laboratorioihin. Etenkin terävien esineiden (neulat, veitset, ym) suhteen on oltava huolellisia, ja niiden jättäminen työpöydille suojaamatta on kielletty. Terävien esineiden hävitykseen on laboratoriossa omat keräysastiat, eikä niitä saa laittaa tavallisen roskan sekaan. Laboratoriolasia ei saa laittaa keittiön kierrätyslasiastiaan, vaan se laitetaan lasiroskakoriin, joista se viedään ulos sekajätteisiin.
WC:t
WC-roskakoreihin ei tule viedä roskia muualta.
PAHVILAATIKOT
Tyhjät pahvilaatikot on litistettävä ja vietävä pahvinkeräystelineeseen. Ne eivät kuulu laboratorio- tai toimistoroskakoreihin.
Kiitos kaikille! Noudatamme yliopiston ohjeistusta tilojen käyttöön ja lajitteluun liittyen.
BCO-KIEPPI GENERAL MAINTENANCE AND SORTING AND RECYCLING OF WASTE
COFFEE ROOMS
Coffee rooms have bins for 1) organic waste, 2) mixed waste, 3) metal, 4) glass (not for laboratory glass) and the new 5) packaging board waste bin. Please, sort your waste into these and keep the food or drink leftovers in the metal, glass and packaging board waste in minimum to prevent bad smells and to keep the bins clean. Currently there is no recycling for plastic.
REFRIGERATORS AND FOOD CUPBOARDS
Food items stored in fridges and food cupboards have to be labelled with names. Own old items have to be thrown away asap, so that they do not contaminate other items.
OFFICES
Note that the offices are not cleaned daily. The cleaning days are marked by the door. The offices have paper recycling box and a general office waste basket. Do not put food waste, or their packages, into them, but bring them into kitchen for disposal.
LABORATORIES
In laboratories special cleanliness and order has to be taken due to laboratory safety reasons. Laboratory waste has to be put to waste baskets in laboratories, do not take it elsewhere. Especially with sharp items (needles, knives etc) you have to be careful and leaving them unprotected to the tables is forbidden. Sharp items have to be disposed by collecting them into their specific collection boxes in the laboratories. Laboratory glass is not recyclable and it should not be taken to coffee rooms, but collected separately in laboratories in glass waste.
TOILETS
It is not allowed to take garbage from other rooms to toilet waste baskets.
CARDBOARD BOXES
Empty cardboard boxes have to be flattened out and taken to the specific rack. They do not belong to waste baskets in laboratories or offices.
Thank you all! We follow the University general rules for maintenance and recycling.

Hyvä Henkilökunta,
huomioikaa kiristynyt suojamaskien käyttösuositus ja seuratkaa tiedotusta:
https://patio.oulu.fi/fi/yliopisto/ajankohtaiset-teemat/koronavirus
Oulun yliopisto suosittelee määräaikaisesti 29.10-12.11.2020 käyttämään suu-nenäsuojainta kaikissa julkisissa sisätiloissa ja yleisötilaisuuksissa Oulun kaupungin alueella. Suositus koskee yli 15-vuotiaita.
Dear all,
please notice recommendations to use masks to prevent the spread of coronavirus. More information, please follow:
https://patio.oulu.fi/en/university/topical-themes/coronavirus
Face mask is one of the ways to prevent the spread of coronavirus infections. The primary priority is to keep safe distances of 1-2 m whenever possible, to wash hands, cough into a paper handkerchief or the sleeve, and avoid contact with the face. In addition to this, in accordance with the Regional COVID-19 Coordination Group recommendations, the University of Oulu recommends during 29.10.-12.11.2020 to use the face masks in all public indoor spaces of the University. The recommendation applies to all facilities at our university, but not to situations where a security interval of 1 to 2 metres can be maintained with certainty or when a person is working alone in their own office, for example.
Take care, Lauri

Dear all,
Biocenter Oulu core facilities, among some other University of Oulu infrastructures, start using iLab, an online system from Agilent technologies, to streamline the process of reserving, ordering and billing for core services. There have already been some test users (thank you!) and very soon the system will be open for all, and use of other reservation systems will be closed. The BCO core facilities using iLab are: Biocenter Oulu Sequencing Center, Proteomics and protein analysis, Structural Biology, Tissue Imaging Center: EM and light microscopy, Transgenic and tissue phenotyping.
We will give a summary how to start using iLab in a zoom meeting organized on Wednesday 28th at 10-11.00 (see link in the bottom).
I warmly welcome Principal Investigators, since they have a role in getting their lab members accepted and their funding projects assigned now in the starting phase.
You will get information already in these training videos, one for PIs https://www.screencast.com/t/3jByLwlP and one for lab members https://www.screencast.com/t/2Y81tURn9MM
If you have question already now, please, contact me or the core coordinators!
Kind regards,

Dear BCO-Kieppi people,
Please, remind your new employees: We will again organize so-called "safety walks" for BCO-Kieppi people who have not yet participated in them. We will walk through our premises and locate the emergency exits, fire alarms, fire extinguishers etc, check the meeting point for emergencies, and talk about safety. Participation to this about 30 min walk is obligatory for everybody. This is organized for your own safety.
The next tour: October 15, starting at 14.00, in English. Starting point for the tours is top of the main staircase 4th floor.
See you there!
Kind regards
Pirkko and Antti

Dear all,
As of 12.10.2020, the Regional Coordination Group recommends remote working and remote conferencing always where work tasks allow this.
As a reminder I post here the University´s instructions from September 2, 2020 https://patio.oulu.fi/en/university/topical-themes/coronavirus. Particular attention must be paid to ensuring that these safety issues are taken into account and implemented in break and coffee rooms.
Kind regards
Pirkko Huhtala
The University of Oulu recommends that a face mask be used during close contact where the safety distance of 1-2 metres cannot be implemented on campus. Mouth and nose protection is one way to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection. It is of paramount importance to continue to follow safety intervals of 1 to 2 meters whenever possible, to wash hands, cough on a sleeve or disposable handkerchief, and to avoid contact with the face.
The University of Oulu staff work remotely in all situations where it is possible with reasonable effort. In the case of a task which cannot be performed remotely and where it is not possible to maintain a safety distance of 1-2 meters, all persons working in the same room are recommended to wear suitable masks and/or some other protective equipment identified on the basis of the site risk assessment, such as nitrile gloves and/or facial visors (for example, teaching situations that must be arranged as contact teaching, laboratory work, transportation related to field courses, and other research and teaching situations where close contacts are evident).
The university's service tasks are mainly performed using electronic services. Where it is not possible to provide the service electronically, the employee must ensure appropriate protection with his or her supervisor before the service situation occurs. A polycarbonate cover is installed at service points. If there is no protection at the service point or it is not possible to use a usual service point, it is possible to use a face visor. In addition, other protective equipment identified on the basis of the individual and/or personal risk assessment must be used.
The university provides all its employees with fabric masks and other necessary protective equipment for working in the workplace. Fabric protectors can also be used away from the workplace (eg in public transport). Interns follow the internship site's own safety instructions.
