SUMMERTIME DWA SERVICES at the Kontinkangas campus

Kontinkankaan kampuksen välinehuoltopalvelut toimivat pienemmällä palvelukapasiteetilla koko kesälomakauden 23.6.-13.8.2025 ajan, jolloin tavarat ja astiat saattavat tulla valmiiksi normaalia hitaammin. Kiireellisissä asioissa olethan yhteydessä välinehuoltoon s-postilla tai puhelimitse. -17.6.2025 saakka on mahdollista varata soluviljelykaappien pesu ja sterilointi, varaa aika DWA-valinehuolto(a)oulu.fi<mailto:DWA-valinehuolto@oulu.fi> -Soluviljelykaappeja ei pestä eikä steriloida lomajakson aikana. Sterilointikaappien pesu- ja sterilointiaikoja on varattavissa jälleen 14.8.2025 alkaen -Astiat ja steriloitavat tavarat tulee merkitä kunnolla. Vastuu merkinnöistä on aina tavaran tuojalla/ryhmällä. -Jäteastioita ei pidä ylitäyttää maljoilla. Max täyttö jäteastian yläreunaan asti ja maljojen nestetilavuus saa olla max 1Litra/astia. Ylitäytetyt astiat valuttavat nestettä autoklaavin pohjalle. Hyvää Kesää Kaikille! Book a time at DWA-valinehuolto(a)oulu.fi<mailto:DWA-valinehuolto@oulu.fi>. * Cell culture cabinets will not be cleaned or sterilized during the holiday period. * Cleaning and sterilization times for sterilization cabinets can be booked again from August 14 onwards. * Items and dishes to be sterilized must be properly labeled. The responsibility for labeling always lies with the person/group bringing the items. * Waste bins should not be overfilled with plates. The maximum fill level is to the top edge of the bin, and the total volume of agar should not exceed 1 liter. Overfilled bins will leak liquid onto the bottom of the autoclave. TOMORROW : Power cut of the whole Kontinkangas campus area 30.7.2025

In my previous email the times were misleading. Elevators will stop working, so do not enter elevator just before 4 PM (or 9 PM in Kieppi). You may get stuck for few hours and the alarm button may not work either. Electronic locks of the doors should still work after the power cut has started. They have battery, but the battery will most likely not survive four/five-hour break, so it is likely that the doors stop working around 6 PM (in building 7C) or 11 PM (Kieppi). You can always get out, but not in. If urgently needed to get in, I have instructions how to proceed. In Kieppi, ISS will check the cold rooms and deep freezers (I guess?), etc. after the electricity is back in the night. The electrician, Juhani Saukkoriipi (ISS), told that the maintenance will take several hours for sure. He promised that the electricity is back 10 PM at latest, but "may be so already one hour earlier". So, likely we don't have electricity between 4 PM and 9 PM, which is 5 hours. This is long time for our deep freezers, and the only think we can do is to keep the lid closed that period. I will be here when the electricity should come back and check the freezers. If there are problems with some freezers to restart, I will start to call to the voluntary contact persons, which I have now quite many! Thank to all of you who have promised to help in urgent situation. So, concerning the Aapistie 7C deep freezers, would be nice to have a list of people who are around and available during the evening time 30.7.2025. So that I could call those people, if such an urgent deep freezer failure happens and samples need to be moved around. Hi all, The ISS will replace the rubber seal on the cold room door early next week. If you store some temperature sensitive things there I would wait until the door has been fixed because they need to keep it open for a while. BRs, Antti

Hi all, ISS maintenance person on duty contacted me via e-mail about the cold room being broken. He could not reach any others by phone. It cannot be fixed until next week. I will try to go see what is the situation if I can. Antti
