Hi all, We have changed reservation system for the Biocenter's Biorad CFX96 Touch Real-Time PCR Detection System (located in Kieppi 4th floor, Rm 444B). Now the reservation and invoicing goes through the Sequencing Center's iLab instead of Asimov. It aims at international breakthroughs in development and application of novel digitalized solutions to predict progression of diseases and in offering personalized therapies in a cost-effective and patient-centric way. There are four different research topics in DigiHealth: DigiHealth1 creates novel, integrated next-generation bioinformatics and biosensor data solutions, DigiHealth2 creates system level architecture for health data management and sustainable communication networks, DigiHealth3 develops medical AI for early detection and diagnosis to support clinical decision making and personalized medicine, and DigiHealth4 offers a novel value chain capability in establishing digital healthcare solutions. DigiHealth opens now a second call for proposals for new short-term research initiatives. The total budget of the call is about 200 000 euros and one project can be up to 50 000 euros. The proposals should: * be based on emphasizing possible future visions and new openings related to DigiHealth * have high scientific potential and connection to the Digihealth’s core themes and objectives * advance co-operation and multidisciplinarity and provide additional academic expertise * plan larger project proposals(s) (e.g., for Horizon Europe) as concrete outcomes in addition to the scientific results. The funding can be used to researchers’ salary costs and/or other research initiatives and actions (such as equipment, reagents and outsourced services) that support DigiHealth themes. Length of the funding period is one year at maximum from the decision date. The proposal should include at least two PIs from different faculties or different disciplines of the University of Oulu. The team selects the primary Research Unit where the funding will be paid. The number of submitted proposals is restricted to one application per one PI. Reports for the usage of funding will be asked for all the funded projects. The maximum length of the proposal is 3 pages and it should strictly follow the designated Word template. Offices, food and cleaning

Dear all, The ISS cleaning team reminds us that the two mornings/week when the offices are cleaned are marked by each door. To keep your office space tidy and to speed up the work of cleaning personnel it is strongly recommended that you do not store your food stuff on the tables then. Also to make the air quality better in our quite crowded rooms if you when possible can at least partly empty your tables so that they can cleaned. Research group leaders, please, remind your new members about our practices. BCO-KIEPPI GENERAL MAINTENANCE AND SORTING AND RECYCLING OF WASTE COFFEE ROOMS Coffee rooms have bins for 1) organic waste, 2) mixed waste, 3) metal, 4) glass (not for laboratory glass) 5) packaging board 6) plastic waste bin. Please, sort your waste into these and keep the food or drink leftovers in the metal, glass, plastic and packaging board waste in minimum to prevent bad smells and to keep the bins clean. REFRIGERATORS AND FOOD CUPBOARDS Food items stored in fridges and food cupboards have to be labelled with names. Own old items have to be thrown away asap, so that they do not contaminate other items. OFFICES Note that the offices are not cleaned daily. The cleaning days are marked by the door. The offices have paper recycling box and a general office waste basket. Do not put food waste, or their packages, into them, but bring them into kitchen for disposal. LABORATORIES In laboratories special cleanliness and order has to be taken due to laboratory safety reasons. Laboratory waste has to be put to waste baskets in laboratories, do not take it elsewhere. Especially with sharp items (needles, knives etc) you have to be careful and leaving them unprotected to the tables is forbidden. Sharp items have to be disposed by collecting them into their specific collection boxes in the laboratories. Laboratory glass is not recyclable and it should not be taken to coffee rooms, but collected separately in laboratories in glass waste. TOILETS It is not allowed to take garbage from other rooms to toilet waste baskets. CARDBOARD BOXES Empty cardboard boxes have to be flattened out and taken to the specific rack. They do not belong to waste baskets in laboratories or offices. Thank you all! We follow the University general rules for maintenance and recycling. BCO-KIEPPITILOJEN YLEINEN YLLÄPITO, JÄTTEIDEN LAJITTELU JA KIERRÄTYS KAHVIHUONEET Kahvihuoneissa on erilliset roska-astiat: 1) biojäte, 2) sekajäte 3) metalli, 4) lasi (ei laboratoriolasi), 5) kartonkikeräys ja 6)muovi. Lajitelkaa roskanne näihin. Ruoka- ja juomajätteitä tulisi metalli-, lasi- ja kartonkijätteissä olla minimimäärä, jotta hajuhaittoja ei tule ja astiat pysyvät siisteinä. JÄÄKAAPIT JA RUOKAKAAPIT Jääkaapeissa ja ruokakaapeissa olevien pakkausten tulee olla merkitty henkilön nimellä. Omat vanhat ruoka-ainekset tulee jokaisen hävittää ensi tilassa, jotta ne eivät pilaa muita tuotteita. TOIMISTOT Huomioithan, että toimistoja ei siivota joka päivä. Siivouspäivät on merkitty ovenpieleen. Toimistoissa on paperikierrätyslaatikko ja yleisroskakori. Toimiston roskakoreihin ei saa laittaa ruokajätteitä, tai niiden pakkauksia, vaan ne on vietävä kahvihuoneen roskakoreihin. LABORATORIOT Laboratorioissa on noudatettava erityistä siisteyttä ja järjestystä turvallisuussyistä. Laboratorioroskat kuuluvat laboratorioihin. Etenkin terävien esineiden (neulat, veitset, ym) suhteen on oltava huolellisia, ja niiden jättäminen työpöydille suojaamatta on kielletty. Terävien esineiden hävitykseen on laboratoriossa omat keräysastiat, eikä niitä saa laittaa tavallisen roskan sekaan. Laboratoriolasia ei saa laittaa keittiön kierrätyslasiastiaan, vaan se laitetaan lasiroskakoriin, joista se viedään ulos sekajätteisiin. WC:t WC-roskakoreihin ei tule viedä roskia muualta. PAHVILAATIKOT Tyhjät pahvilaatikot on litistettävä ja vietävä pahvinkeräystelineeseen. Ne eivät kuulu laboratorio- tai toimistoroskakoreihin. Kiitos kaikille!
