Dear BCO Kieppi-people, There are some safety neglects and also of some general problems in laboratories I have been notified of. The group leaders should remind about these especially when having new people in the laboratories:
1. Do not leave sharp items around. This is to protect those who use these items, others working in the same laboratory, and the cleaning personnel. (Scalpels (without any protective cover) placed in beakers sharp end up and lying on tables. Needles without and with covers lying on tables. There is no excuse for this. Better laboratory practices are required from everybody, from post docs to trainees and visitors. 2. You have to clean your mess and collect your stuff. When using common equipment or lab space, take care that you leave the benches and equipment clean and take your items with you. 3. Do not take from other groups without first asking. Each research group pays their own reagents etc, they are not for common use. Usually if you first ask, you get a permission to use.
Please, have a look around and see whether there are things to be improved, and fix them!
Thank you!
