Viedessäsi jätteitä kellarin varastoon - ja mielellään jo aloittaessasi jätteiden keräyksen tiettyyn astiaan - huolehdi, että merkinnät jäteastiassa ovat asianmukaiset.

Etiketissä tulee olla maininta, että aine on jäte sekä lueteltuna kaikki jätteen sisältämät komponentit (myös ne, jotka eivät ole ongelmajätettä). Tee merkinnät niin, että jäte voidaan hävittää sen perusteella. Esim. merkintä "valokuvaus-kemikaalijätettä", on hyödytön, mutta sen sijaan "kiinnitejäte, sisältää hopeaa" on asianmukainen merkintä. Jätteen analysointi koostumuksen selvittämiseksi on kallista. Merkinnät on tehtävä siten, että ne eivät pyyhkiydy pois.

Merkitse myös selvästi mistä laboratoriosta/tutkimusryhmästä jäte on peräisin. Oman laboratorion / yksikön lisäksi suoraan hävitettäväksi toimitettaviin isompiin pakkauksiin on merkittävä Biocenter jätteen syntypaikaksi. Tämä siksi, että varastossa on myös Mikrobiologian laitoksen ja kliinisen tutkimuskeskuksen jätteitä, ja ongelmajätehuolto haluaa pitää kirjanpitoa eri yksiköiden tuottamista jätemääristä. Yliopiston jätehuolto huolehtii pois samalla kertaa myös mikrobiologian ja kliinisen tutkimuskeskuksen jätteet.

Varastoon viedyt ongelmajätteet on merkittävä sekä varastossa olevaan vihkoon että ryhmän ongelmajätevastaavan siirtoasiakirja-tiedostoon. Siirtoasiakirjan vaatii yliopiston ongelmajätehuolto, vihko on meidän omaa seurantaamme varten. Pystymme tarvittaessa löytämään yksittäisen pakkauksen varastoon tuojan, ja tunnistamaan myös pakkaukset joita ei ole muistettu merkitä siirtoasiakirjaan.

Please, do mark or label hazardous waste clearly. The label should tell that the content is waste and list all the components of the waste (also those ones that are not hazardous waste). Mark/label the waste so that it can be disposed and destroyed according to the label. For example, text "photographic waste" is useless whereas text "fixation waste from photographing, contains silver" is a correct one. It is very expensive to analyse the waste in order to find out its composition.
 
Indicate clearly the laboratory where hazardous waste comes from, and indicate also that the waste originates from Biocenter Oulu laboratories (Storage room contains waste from Biocenter, Dept. of Microbiology and CRC, and these all are removed at the same time).
 
It is best to mark the hazardous waste already when it is produced, i.e. mark the empty container appropriately when you start collecting hazardous waste in it. Text has to made so that it is not possible to wipe them away.

When you bring something to the storage room, you should write down in a booklet (on a shelf close to door) which kind of waste and how much you bring to the storage room.  In addition, ask the person responsible in your group for hazardous waste to update electronic file about the stored waste.
