I would not open the incubator doors either during this time because they cannot replace the CO2 if the power is off. Some incubators and freezers might give a “Power
off” warning after they will turn on again but this should not affect their function.
Also I would recommend to turn off your computers (work stations at least) before you leave home tomorrow.

In 7C this is scheduled
16:00-21:00 and in Kieppi 21:00-01:00. In my previous email the times were misleading.
Elevators will stop working, so do not enter elevator just before 4 PM (or 9 PM in Kieppi). You may get stuck for few hours and the alarm button may not work either.
Electronic locks of the doors should still work after the power cut has started. They have battery, but the battery will most likely not survive four/five-hour break, so it is likely that the doors
stop working around 6 PM (in building 7C) or 11 PM (Kieppi). You can always get out, but not in. If urgently needed to get in, I have instructions how to proceed.
In Kieppi, ISS will check the cold rooms and deep freezers (I guess?), etc. after the electricity is back in the night.
They apparently have a list for checking those.

I got more information about the power cut, which will happen tomorrow in 7C building and Kieppi. The electrician, Juhani Saukkoriipi (ISS), told that the maintenance will take several hours for sure.
He promised that the electricity is back 10 PM at latest, but "may be so already one hour earlier". So, likely we don't have electricity between 4 PM and 9 PM, which is 5 hours. This is long time for our deep freezers, and the only think we can do is to keep
the lid closed that period. I will be here when the electricity should come back and check the freezers. If there are problems with some freezers to restart, I will start to call to the voluntary contact persons, which I have now quite many! Thank to all of
you who have promised to help in urgent situation.

Reminder about the power cut in Kontinkangas area during 29.-31.7. This is announced now also in Patio:
Aapistie 7C and Kieppi buildings are affected on 30.7. evening time, Aapistie 7 starting at 5 PM and Kieppi at 9 PM.
The deep freezers may be an issue. I am volunteered to be here in the evening and check at least the Aapistie 7C deep freezers, so that they will turn on normally after the electricity is back. Hopefully
some one else can do this in Kieppi, because I am not aware of them very well (not at all). The big problem will be if one or more deep freezers are not turning on and the samples need to be carried to the back-up freezer. This I cannot do alone very well.
So, concerning the Aapistie 7C deep freezers, would be nice to have a list of people who are around and available during the evening time 30.7.2025. So that I could call those people, if such an urgent deep freezer failure happens and samples need to be moved
around.

PS: We (=Pirkko-BCO, Peppi-FBMM and Virpi-MED) tried to negotiate the timing and postpone this maintenance more towards autumn season but with no succeed

Hello all,
I heard (from the ISS electrician) that they will be a planned power cut concerning the whole Kontinkangas campus area on Wednesday
July 30. The estimated time is up to five hours, which is quite a lot. There should be an announcement in Patio about this, but at least I couldn't find it.
Anyway, be prepared!
