Dear colleagues, The semester starts again soon, and with it our weekly seminars. Heikki Helanterä and I are listing potential speakers for this semester's program. Please suggest names of speakers you would like to invite to give a seminar. It would be nice to have a diversity of invited speakers as large as the diversity of topics we cover in our Ecology and Genetics group. It is also an excellent opportunity for PhD students and new postdocs to present their work. If you're new to the group, please get in touch! Proposal workshop for Academy Research Fellow applicants - register by 12 August The Academy of Finland calls for Research Fellowship, Clinical Researcher, Project funding, Sport Science research projects and Mobility open 25 August and close either 28 September or 5 October depending on the call. Research and Project Services continues to offer support and registration for Academy Research Fellow proposal workshop is now open. Recordings of selected presentations will be circulated to faculties afterwards. Proposal workshop for Academy Research Fellowship applicants Workshop for this year's Academy Research Fellow applicants starts on 19 August and runs weekly until 9 September online. Implementation (with case examples from successful applicants) 9.9. CV and Publications The sessions follow the structure of the Academy Research Fellowship application. Each session will contain a brief presentation and Q&A. Participants will have one week to produce a draft text of the section covered in the session that will be commented by the research funding specialist and a peer (or two) from the same field, however CV and publications will not be commented. Participants will have until the 16th of September to send a draft of the full proposal to the research funding specialists (if needed and please note that Faculty-specific variation are possible). Hei sinä opiskelija tai tutkija! Tutkitko ötököitä, eli hyönteisiä, hämähäkkejä, tai muita selkärangattomia? Kirjoita tutkimukseesi liittyen populaarinen tiedekirjoitus ja osallistu kilpailuun. Ole mukana havainnollistamassa pienten eliöiden suurta merkitystä toimivalle luonnolle ja edistämässä ihmisen luontosuhdetta muuttuvassa ympäristössä. Ihminen ei voi välittää sellaisesta, minkä olemassaolosta ja tärkeydestä hän ei tiedä. Tuttujen lähiympäristön hyönteisten tai eksoottisempien lajien elämäntyylien vaihtelevuuden, kiehtovan käytöksen ja tärkeän ekosysteemiroolin konkretisointi luo juuri tätä ymmärrystä ja siten myös myötämielisyyttä niiden suojelua kohtaan. Hei, muistuttaisin tutkielmien ohjaajia ja opiskelijoita siitä että LuK-kypsyysnäytteiden ja Ecogen kv-ohjelmassa opiskelevien opiskelijoiden (ellei ole suorittanut suomalaista kanditutkintoa) on kirjoitettava esseetyyppinen kypsyysnäyte 1.8.2022 alkaen. Sopikaa ohjaajanne kanssa miten tämän teette, joko EXAMissa tai ohjaajan muulla tavoin ohjeistamana.
