Hello everybody, We will have to give out some laboratory space B147 and B148 which have entrance from the J-corridor. There will be again a lot of stuff to discard, and Martela will come pick those up likely next Tuesday. If you have anything electric, metallic, batteries, plastic or other things that you want to discard, please let me know or alteratively take them to the "tuulikaappi" of H4 door where the gas bottles are. Have you considered applying for the ERC Consolidator or Synergy Grant? The European Research Council (ERC) funds excellent science through its annual Starting, Consolidator, Advanced and Synergy Grants. The different ERC grants suit researchers at different stages of their research careers. Please register for the ERC grant applicant's support process<https://link.webropol.com/s/ercoulu> to apply for an ERC Synergy Grant or ERC Consolidator Grant. The application deadlines for these grants are as follows: ERC Synergy Grant (ERC-SYG-2025): open until 6.11.2024 ERC Consolidator Grant (ERC-COG-2025): 26.9.2024–14.1.2025 ERC Synergy Grant can be awarded up to a maximum of EUR 10 million for a period of 6 years. ERC SYG is awarded to a group of two to a maximum of four Principal Investigators (PIs) working together and bringing different skills and resources to tackle ambitious research problems. ERC Consolidator Grant can be awarded for a maximum of €2 million over 5 years. Researchers of any nationality with 7-12 years of experience since completion of PhD, a scientific track record showing great promise and an excellent research proposal can apply. The University of Oulu wants to support researchers in applying for ERC funding and offers a support process to help applicants prepare for their ERC applications. For some applicants, we also offer an external ERC consultancy review to help the applicant refine the application further before submission. Is your faculty/programme interested in offering a course or lectures? This could be an existing full course or a set of thematic lectures or "taster sessions", for example. 2. If yes, do you have any ideas about possible topics/subjects? Our unit (Strategy and Science Policy Unit: STY) will pay all the costs and the teacher’s fees. Last summer's group of students wanted to know how to apply to study here and one was already planning to apply. The summer school is therefore also a good opportunity to recruit new students. This year we are already investing in marketing, so if you have any courses that would be suitable for the summer school, please let us know. The summer school will run alongside the existing Finnish-language kick-start programme. Become an expert of intellectual property rights Copyrights, patents, and trademarks are in the news almost daily. Intellectual property rights (IP) do not have meaning only in business life. Research work produces and utilizes IP rights. Come to the basic IP course and learn how you can protect and utilize your results/business ideas more efficiently! Know-how from IP rights is an important part of working life skills. The course consists of three parts, and it is kept in English. Students can get 0.5 credits when participating to the course and making exercises. Others: you are welcome to join all sessions or choose the most interesting ones.
