Teaching-related matters

Hei, In the unit meeting today I presented an overview of the Bachelor's graduate survey and Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the past nine years (slides attached). The main message is that we are doing very well in teaching, based on the survey results. However, Heikki pointed out that we are missing the voice of those students who don't graduate, and therefore it is essential to carefully examine the feedback we receive from courses. Moreover, the student guild Syntaksis is collecting feedback every spring and there will be a joint event to go through that next year. The three-year average percentage of master's students who graduate on time is only 36%, compared to 63% of bachelor's students. The likely reason for this is too demanding master's projects and a lack of support in writing the thesis. All supervisors need to pay attention to the extent of the master's projects - they should be doable within 7.5 months of full-time work. We need help from PhD students and postdocs in organizing thesis writing sessions for master's students. You can cover your teaching responsibility with this. The training is mandatory for all employees and must be completed by 31 March 2026 at the latest. The duration of the training is estimated to be between one hour and two hours and it comprises the following contents: · what is data protection · why data protection is important · how personal data is processed lawfully and securely · what is important to know about data protection at the University of Oulu. The Basics of Data Protection for Personnel online training consists of the following parts: 1. Sections 1-8 of the ABC of data protection training for public administration personnel provided by Association of Finnish Municipalities, Digital and Population Data Services Agency, eOppiva and Ministry of Justice, and 2. content produced by the University of Oulu in Moodle. The different parts of the Moodle course platform go through the life cycle of personal data processing, starting with the planning of the processing of personal data.
