Hallituksen uusien (11.6. laatimien) kriteereiden perusteella metsiä jotka on ennestään määritelty vanhoiksi ja suojeltaviksi voidaan nyt ottaa hakkuisiin, eli vanhojen metsien määrä Suomessa putoaa entisestään. Tämä on pahasti ristiriidassa
EU:n biodiversiteettistrategian kanssa, mihin Suomi on sitoutunut.

Based on the new criteria of the Finnish government, many forests that were previously defined as old and protectable can now be
harvested. Therefore, the number of old forests in Finland will drop drastically so that basically there are no old forests left in the Southern Finland. This is highly contradictory to the EU Biodiversity strategy, which Finland has also committed to.
