Apply Now to Get Enhanced Support as Coordinator for your Horizon Europe RIA(IA) proposal in 2023 (or in 2024)

Research and project services offer enhanced support for researchers, who plan to coordinate a Research and Innovation Action (RIA) or an Innovation Action (IA) proposal in Horizon Europe calls (Clusters 1-6) with either a deadline in September-December 2023 or a deadline in January-April 2024. The support is intended for applicants, who have prior experience from Horizon Framework programme or similar (e.g. having been a partner of a Horizon project or having been involved in proposal preparation), but have never coordinated a proposal before. Priority is given to applicants with deadlines in autumn 2023, but the support process can be started also for later deadlines.

The support consists of training, support in proposal writing (call analysis, impact and implementation, open science, data management, gender), budgeting and graphic design. The research and project services’ team will guide the coordinator throughout the whole preparation process.

Also, a small salary fund for the PI or an assisting researcher is available and external services for proposal review can be provided (subject to the availability of strategic funds). A detailed description of the support services can be found on Patio.
All researchers planning to submit a proposal for the Horizon Europe RIA calls in September– December 2023/ January – April 2024  as coordinators can express their interest to be included in the support process by answering a short
Webropol questionnaire by Friday 19.5.2023.

All information provided will be kept confidential. The applicants who are selected for the support process commit themselves to take part in the support process for the proposal preparation and submit their final proposal to the selected call. Selected applicants will be invited to a Horizon Europe training (June) and a kick-off meeting to go through the support process and schedule in May/June 2023.

Selection will be made based on the availability of services and the readiness level of the proposal preparation.

Horizon Europe training on proposal writing and coordination

Research and Project Services is organizing a training on proposal writing and coordination to support researchers (UOULU & UOAS) who are interested in Horizon Europe (HE) consortium projects. The training is divided in two parts:

  1. How to write an excellent HE proposal Tuesday, 6.6.2023 at 9.00 – 12.00

in Timjami (Foodoo Garden)

  1. How to coordinate a HE proposal, Thursday 8.6.2023 at 9.30 – 11.00

in Timjami (Foodoo Garden)

The training will be given by research support specialists from UOulu.

Research and project services have been supporting researchers in writing various funding applications for European funding calls since the early days of the framework programmes. The current coordination support process for Horizon Europe consortium project preparation has been highly successful. So far UOulu has been awarded 7 coordinated Horizon Europe consortium projects, out of which 4 took part in the support process organized by the research and project services.

This training is open for all researchers, whether you are just learning about EU projects or already participated in them. You can participate in both parts of the training, or just one.

Coffee and refreshments will be served to participants.

Registration mandatory, deadline 26.5.2023: https://link.webropolsurveys.com/S/8176C14C6B854E52 (you can sign up for both or just one course under the same registration link).

  1. How to write an excellent proposal Tuesday, 6.6.2023 at 9.00 – 12.00

in Timjami (Foodoo Garden)

Setting up a proposal is a project in itself. It starts with finding a suitable call and understanding the call text. Setting up the objectives and writing the proposal is a time-consuming exercise.

In this training, we will guide you on how to avoid the common pitfalls and write the different sections of the proposal (Excellence, Impact and Implementation). We will discuss SMART objectives, key performance indicators, key impact pathways, deliverables, milestones, risks, barriers and obstacles. We will guide you through cross-cutting issues such as gender, open science, data management, and the budget. We will also give you practical tools for proposal writing and discuss the support available at UOulu.

  1. How to coordinate a HE proposal, Thursday 8.6.2023 at 9.30 – 11.00

in Timjami (Foodoo Garden)

This training is aimed at researchers planning to coordinate a HE proposal in the near future. Not only do you need an excellent application (see training 1 on how to write an excellent HE proposal), but you also need to find the right partners and make sure they work together despite their different backgrounds and motivation. We will discuss the tasks of a coordinator, the most important tools, how to keep the schedule and how to divide the work in order not to become overwhelmed by the preparation. We will also hear from a recent proposal coordinator about their experiences, what worked and what didn’t.

Best regards,

Päivi
