Planning an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships application? Ask the applicant to sign up for the support process
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship Call 2025 under Horizon Europe is expected to open on 9
April 2025 with a deadline of 10 September 2025. MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships provide grants for researchers to support their mobility, research projects and training both within and outside Europe. The fellowship is applied in cooperation with the planned
host organisation. The scheme covers all research areas. It is targeted at researchers with a doctoral degree and a maximum of 8 years of research experience after the PhD by the time of the call deadline. Mobility is a must in the MSCA: the researcher must
not have resided in the country of the beneficiary, in this case Finland, for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the call deadline.
An MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA PF) proposal is prepared and submitted by the individual researcher together
with the supervisor of the host organisation. Research and Project Services have published a more detailed website section on the Support
for Ground-Breaking Research at the University of Oulu.
The University of Oulu Research and Project Services team will help the applicants and supervisors with the proposal
preparations. The support process will run during the whole MSCA PF Call period: 9.4-10.9.2025. All supervisors and potential applicants planning to submit an MSCA PF application with UOULU as their host
institution can register for the support process by answering a short Webropol questionnaire by
9 April 2025.

RCF preparing call for universities to invite foreign researchers to Finland
The Research Council of Finland (RCF) is planning a new funding call to help universities recruit international experts
to Finland. The call would be part of the RCF funding scheme that strengthens university research profiles, the so-called Profi
funding, which has been part of the RCF’s competitive funding portfolio since 2015.
The funding is designed to contribute to raising the level of research in fields chosen by the universities. Recruiting
international researchers is one way to boost and improve the quality of research in Finland.
The call has a preliminary total budget of 50 million euros, which will be granted for recruitment supporting the
research profiling of Finnish universities between 2026 and 2030. According to the preliminary plans, the funding can be used to recruit researchers from outside Finland, for example from the United States, to Finnish universities.

Online ERC Training in May
19-20.5. at 9.30-12.00, online
Research and Project Services, together with the ERC consultancy company Yellow Research, are organising an online
training on 19-20 May on how to write a successful Horizon Europe ERC grant proposal.
The two-part webinar-form ERC training provides a roadmap to submission, tackling stumbling blocks that you, as Principal
Investigator (PI), may have when writing your ERC grant application. This training will focus on creating the right mindset for submitting a proposal, covering the ERC objectives and evaluation criteria, what the panels expect, how to strategically approach
the design of the project, and how to generate a convincing argumentation that will allow the reviewers to understand the feasibility of your ambitious research project. This training will also guide participants systematically through the different parts
of the proposal writing, addressing the critical elements for writing the CV part, extended synopsis and B2.
The training will be recorded, and the recordings will be made available to the registered participants.

for the event is open!

This event is aimed for researchers interested in applying for an ERC grant. Participants will get the opportunity to read successful
ERC grant proposals to see how a proposal might be structured. Only a limited number of participants can be admitted to the event.
