This is a kind reminder for all the postdocs and PhD students to take a look at our curriculum (BSc: https://opas.peppi.oulu.fi/fi/ohjelma/46002?period=2025-2026, MSc: https://opas.peppi.oulu.fi/fi/ohjelma/46046?period=2025-2026) and then write in this table, in which courses you have already agreed to teach and in which format (lectures/exercises). When you find a course you are interested in teaching, please get in touch with the responsible teacher and introduce yourself, including your experience on the subject.

You are also welcome to suggest new courses (and many thanks to all of you who have already done so!).

For the autumn term, we need assistance at least in these courses (please get in touch with the responsible teachers directly):

• Population ecology (in English), computer exercises
• Solukkoviljelyn perusteet (in Finnish), laboratoriohajoitukset, vaatimuksena kyseinen kurssi suoritettuna, aiempi opetuskokemus katsotaan myös eduksi
• Eläinten lajintuntemus, selkärankaiset (in Finnish), hyvät lajintuntemustaidot

Here’s a reminder about the principles for teaching responsibilities in the Ecology and Genetics research unit:

• The maximum number of contact teaching hours conforms to the recommendation made by the collective bargaining agreement: 394 hours for University Teachers and University Lecturers, 254 hours for University Researchers / Senior Research Fellows and 141 hours for Professors, also for those who have tenure track positions. The University of Oulu has aligned that a maximum of 10 hours of contact teaching is given per one credit (1 credit = 27 hours) and one contact teaching hour is 45 minutes.
• All postdocs on a salary participate in teaching master’s level courses (also bachelor’s level if they want). We follow the Academy of Finland’s recommendation to allocate 5% of the total working time, equivalent to 80 hours/year, or 25 hours/year for those with a 10% contract.
• All PhD students on a salary participate in teaching either at the bachelor’s or master’s level courses, 50 hours/year (full-time employment) or 25 hours/year (10% contract).

Preparation of teaching (max 1.3 x contact teaching hours) and supervising PhD, bachelor’s and master’s theses counts toward the teaching hours.

If you teach more than your assigned responsibility, you will receive additional compensation.
