Sign up for support process for ERC grant applicants by 31.3.2024

The European Research Council (ERC) funds top-level research through its annual grants (Starting, Consolidator, Advanced, and Synergy Grants). Different ERC grants are designed for applicants at different phases of their research careers. 

The ERC calls will be open in 2024 with the following estimated timetable:

• ERC Advanced (ERC-ADG-2024): 29 May - 29 August 2024
• ERC Starting (ERC-STG-2025): schedule not yet set (may close in October 2024)
• ERC Synergy (ERC-SYG-2025): schedule not yet set (may close in October 2024)
• ERC Consolidator (ERC-COG-2025): schedule not yet set (may close in December 2024)

The University of Oulu wants to encourage its researchers to apply for ERC and will provide a support scheme for selected applicants to prepare for the 2024 Calls. All researchers planning to submit ERC grant applications in 2024 can express their interest to be included in the support process by answering a short Webropol questionnaire by 31.3.2024. 

The support process offers, e.g., annotated application forms and a budget template, regular meetings to support the application writing, comments on the application, online ERC application training, a writing retreat and some graphic design support. We also offer some applicants an external ERC consultancy evaluation (this year with more consultancy companies than previously) to help the applicant further refine the application before submission. We can also offer targetted resubmission consultancy services for those applicants who are reapplying.

For the first time, the University of Oulu will host a reading event for successful ERC proposals on Friday 24.5.2024. Only a limited number of participants can be admitted to the event. The event is organised in cooperation with the Research Council of Finland and is also open to researchers from the University of Lapland.
