Hello Everybody,

Image

We have installed a UPS courier mailbox for Eurofins Genomics in front of teaching lab B137 (picture attached) that can be used to send samples without mailing expenses. You need to place the samples inside the courier pouches with corresponding return labels. Much more info in emails below also with info how to order a pick-up for the your samples. These pouches and labels are stored in the drawer at the entrance to molecular lab (pic attached). The mailbox can be opened with a key that is behind a keylock bolted to the side of the mailbox. The combination for this keylock is 0815. Hope this brings some convinience to your analysis.

PS. Hopefully the pictures come upright, sometimes they flip 180° and get squeezed

BR,
Petri Sundqvist

”Sanger sequencing- free sample collection

As of now, an on demand pick up and transportation service to the Sanger sequencing lab of Eurofins Genomics in Cologne, Germany is available from the J entrance to the laboratories of Ecology and Genetics here at Oulu University, via the blue metal box mounted on the wall.

To use the service:

  1. Create a user account on https://eurofinsgenomics.eu/
  2. Decide which Eurofins Sanger sequencing service is right for you. Several prepaid and non-prepaid sequencing barcode options in tube and plate format available:  https://eurofinsgenomics.eu/en/custom-dna-sequencing/eurofins-services/  If in doubt contact representative (contact details below)
  3. When the barcodes corresponding to the chosen option arrives: if the service requires it- define your sequencing order online. Premixed options don't (Mix2Seq and LightRun).
  4. Place your tubes or plates in a suitable packaging and drop them in the box (free shipment accessories available from Eurofins: https://eurofinsgenomics.eu/en/custom-dna-sequencing/additional-services/sequencing-accessories/  ).
  5. The transportation is as mentioned for free, but since it is on demand- one has to request the pick up if not already done by a colleague previously the same day. This I done at www.ups.com à Shipping à Order a pick up, or directly on this page https://wwwapps.ups.com/pickup/schedule?loc=en_FI . Then follow the instructions or call UPS on 09 2311 3406.  Freight return labels are provided along with UPS envelopes by the collection box .
  6. Retrieve your sequencing results in your user account. Delivery time varies with services, e.g. with Mix2Seq Overnight- next workday at 1 PM EET.

The collection box can also be used for the MycoplasmaCheck service.

Oulu University has a discounted pricing agreement with Eurofins. For any questions related to this, the logistics or advice on the products of Eurofins Genomics, please contact:

Dear Petri, Namrata and Soile,

The metal collection box along with UPS return labels for on demand shipping of Sanger sequencing (and MycoplasmaCheck) samples was sent from our logistics dept. in Germany today.

Once mounted, it will be ready for use. It would be great if the relevant departments of the Oulu Uni is informed. For example I would be happy to put together an email template for forwarding.

Perhaps some users from the other campus could be interested too?

If anyone wants to know more about what we offer, they are most welcome to get in touch with me (Sanger seq, NGS, array & qPCR-services, Cell line authentication, mycoplasma check, oligos, synthetic genes etc.). If any issues with collections etc. please also contact me, or our logistics department logistics-eu@eurofins.com .

Since it is on demand, a pickup need to be ordered from ups.com when there is something to collect. Of course samples from several users can be transported in the same bag. Normally a system is established, so that the first person who drops off samples orders the collection so that users coming afterwards can just leave the samples in the box. Some places use a system with a little sign saying e,g, “pick up ordered today”, that is turned or put on the box with magnet etc. to avoid uncertainty about if a collection was actually scheduled.

To order a pick up: Go to www.ups.com à Shipping à Order a pick up, or straight to this page https://wwwapps.ups.com/pickup/schedule?loc=en_FI and follow the instructions or call them on 09 2311 3406.

The UPS labels lose their traceability after 3 months. It is then important that any remaining old ones are discarded and that we send new ones. We can set up a regular shipment every 3 months if you like? Alternatively you can send us a short message to send new ones every 3 months or if you are starting to run low.

I hope and think this will be a solution that adds convenience for you. 😊

A good weekend to you and best regards,
Kristofer
