Biology Thursday seminar continues on 6^th April, 12:15 in zoom (link below). Our speaker is Assoc. Prof Johan Ekroos from Univ. Helsinki, Department of Agricultural Sciences and Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science, on
“The landscape ecology of policy interventions for farmland biodiversity”
Abstract: In the early 2000s, it was recognized that the general effectiveness of European agri-environment schemes to benefit farmland biodiversity could not be judged, because of a lack of robust evaluation studies. At the same time, two conceptual models on the potential effects of farmland biodiversity interventions were presented. This development sparked an enormous research activity focusing on policy interventions in agricultural landscapes. Twenty years later it is time to ask what works and what doesn’t (and to what end)? What have we learned about enhancing farmland biodiversity?"
