Dear colleagues,
please remember the last Thursday seminar of this year will take place in zoom (link below) today,
Thu 14th Dec, 12:15, with
Dr. Dieter Thomas Tietze, NABU (Nature And Biodiversity Conservation Union), Germany, on
"Macroevolution of Tits with Tietze"
Abstract: A very common and one of the most wide-spread parid species, the Coal Tit (Periparus ater), challenged our definition of a bird species. Its "Tietze, Tietze" song appears similar across the Palearctic, but
allows insights into evolutionary processes. It took us over a decade to reconstruct a dated multi-gene phylogeny of all parid species. Based on it, we studied the biogeographic history as well as climate-niche and song evolution. In the genomic era, we can
address various questions of functional causation.
