high-level, international scientific research as well as arts and culture. The Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation accepts grant applications every day of the year. Decisions to award grants are made by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, which meets four
times a year in March, May, September and December. Average processing time for applications is 4–6

DL 9.9.2022 Funding for environmental research. This supports scientific research into environmental protection and implementation of research results in this area.
The fund focuses on five research themes related to environmental protection: climate change, biodiversity decline, sustainability of natural resources, water hazards, and chemicalisation and degradation of the environment: work grants for doctoral thesis
research up to four years; work grants for post doc researchers up to two years; project grants, up to one year for implementing scientific environmental knowledge.

The European Innovation Council Pathfinder Programme consists of a combination of both open and challenge driven funding. €167 million is allocated
to tackle six challenges: Carbon dioxide & nitrogen management and valorisation, mid-long term, systems-integrated energy storage, cardiogenomics, healthcare continuum technologies, DNA-based digital data storage and alternative quantum information processing,
communication, and sensing. EIC Pathfinder Challenges aim to build on new, cutting-edge directions in science and technology to disrupt a field and a market or create new opportunities by realising innovative technological solutions grounded in high-risk/high-gain
research and development.
The Program supports collaborative research and innovation from consortia or proposals from single legal entities. The maximum EU contribution per project is EUR 4 million
