HPC Europa3 - travel, learn, compute and collaborate
Pan-European HPC-Europa3 programme funds international research visits requiring HPC. It is an EC programme funding 3-13 week long research visits to nine European countries (see the map below) promoting the use of High Performance Computing (HPC) and international research collaboration in all fields of science. The application process for the visitor and host is light (simple online form) and acceptance rate high has been very high (77% during first 5 calls). HPCE3 covers the travel and accommodation costs + a small daily allowance while the target country computing centre gives computational resources and support.
The program is an excellent opportunity to build new or strengthen existing international collaboration. Visitors can be from all levels from master students to professors and be affiliated to an academic or research institute or an SME in any EU country or affiliated member state, and limited resources are available also for researchers from other countries. Hosts are typically research groups and can similarly be from either academia or industry, as long as the research results can be published. If your group wants to receive visitors, you can sign up as a host in the on-line portal.
The proposed research needs to use computing resources, but in addition to running production jobs the work can also consist of consultation, code development or porting, benchmarking, data analysis or establishing an academic link. Examples of successful projects can be browsed at the "project directory": https://b2drop.eudat.eu/s/Hm9nfZtJSAzesoo To summarize, a successful research project requires the use of computational resources and benefits from the collaborators being at the same site.
The next deadline for applications is 21st February (the visit should start between April-August 2019) but there will be four application deadlines every year until early 2021.
