Hei Marko,

Thanks!

Gel reader (VersaDoc) is used by everybody for imaging agarose gels and is really old and often broken. Also qPCR machines (Roche Lightcycler 96, 480), used for quantifying specific DNA sequences in a sample (for example genes or microbes), are used a lot and getting old. HPLC, used for analysis of chemicals in a sample, is even older and barely works, still.

Just to name a few.

Best wishes,
Anna Maria

Hello biologists of our unit,

Last Friday, in our unit meeting, we shortly discussed about the possibility to modernize our local infrastructure, particularly the DNA lab, provided the Profi 6 application is successful. We are going to budget some money for this purpose in our proposal.

It has already been suggested that we should buy a fragment analyzer. It also has been suggested that our ABI sequencer should be updated and that some more climate chambers should be machined.

I am now asking for more proposals. What equipment would be critical to keep our labs fully functional? If you like to propose something, please also justify this need by telling what this equipment does, how many research groups will use it, and how expensive it is.

Note that this is a rare possibility to renew our labs. Also note that this does not concern small devices such as pipettes, and also not extremely expensive, such as some NGS platforms (Illumina etc.).

Best wishes,

Marko
