Addition to my previous mail, these are the current main research interests of Prof Lehtilä:
(i)
Forest biodiversity in the Baltic Sea region, including studies on forest succession, habitat closure and landscape
studies. I study the relationships between landscape structure and functional composition in plant communities. I also study the ecological effects of afforestation both to single species in a local scale
and in a context of large areas.
(ii)
Plant population ecology and plant-animal interactions, ranging from population viability analysis, restoration
ecology and metapopulation studies to ecosystem effects of toxic compounds produced by marine algae.
(iii)
Natural resource management in rural Africa, specifically environmental and societal effects of development
interventions.

Subject: [Biolaitos] Discussion with Prof Lehtilä?
Hei,
Professor Kari Lehtilä will give a talk tomorrow in our Thursday-seminar (Title: Landscape configuration and local biodiversity: is fragmentation beneficial?) and will be the
opponent for Sonja’s dissertation on Friday. If you would like to discuss with him, please let me know today. He would be available from about 13.30 onwards tomorrow.
cheers,
Laura
