Subject: Finnish speaker needed for NYC environmental conference
My name is Ben Geboe and I am a volunteer organizer for a conference planned in May 2010. We are looking for a speaker from Finland. Is there someone from the Univeristy that could give an overview about the green goals? I have enclosed information below. Please let me know if you are interested or can recommend someone to participate. The event is free and open to the public. Thank you,
Ben Geboe 347-737-0095 (cell)

This is a one day all volunteer event and most of the speakers are providing their own travel, however we can provide local accomodation with a New Yorker (couch surfing.) The conference is dependent on a grant that we will submit to the American Scandinavian Foundation in NYC, however we have a high chance of funding because there is interest in this topic. Globalhood.org is our 'fiscal conduit' for the grant. The grant will pay for lecture hall rental, event insurance (a must in nyc so we don't get sued), a website and printing of post cards. We are 7 people that are organizing this conference on a volunteer basis. I have gotten many grants from ASF in the past to do public events and they expressed interest in this application. We would submit the application on Jan. 15 and know by March 1, 2010. Because this is NYC we can plan this in a short period of time. PR will be done with the help of the Scandinavian counsulates in NYC who would post it on their events board and do email blasts. We also have a network of 25 non profit organizations that will send out email notifications and we would list it in local newspapers like the Village Voice, NYTimes Community Section, Time Out NY, etc.We also have about 50 east coast Scandinavian American interest groups (churches, Vasa Society, Sons of Norway, iswede.com, etc.) that will do mailings and we have a net work of local colleges and universities in NYC that have 'green' programs.
Each speaker is asked to provide a 40 minute presentation about events/environmental situations and trends in government and society. It's a very 'high level' overview and aimed at raisining general awareness. It is our aim to stimulate discussion about this topic in the general public and hopefully motivate organizations to plan for a more professional symposium in the future. There is an appalling lack of noise in this community about green issues. The second day of the conference will include five 40 minute presentations from NYC leaders about sustainable issues.
Please let us know if you want to participate or recommend an innovative speaker and ask them to provide us with a bio (10 sentences max) for the grant application. We can also provide them with a formal letter of invitation if that would help justify or raise travel funding.
We anticipate having about 200-300 people attend the conference and 20-30 organizations tabling information
