Internal call for AXA Research Fund Post-Doctoral Fellowships

Deadline: November 30, 2015

AXA is an international insurance company that has founded AXA Research Fund. The AXA Research Fund seeks to

award 25 Post-Doctoral Fellowships to outstanding researchers. Once a year, it operates a bottom-up call for

applications submitted by the research institution to which the candidate’s host laboratory belongs, and where the

post-doctoral work is to be carried out.

 

University of Oulu (UO) has submitted an institutional application in November 4, 2015. Based on the AXA’s preselection

on November 18, 2015, UO can propose 0 – 4 applicants for the fellowships. For the institutional

nomination we ask interested research groups to submit a short description of their research and propose a

candidate by November 30, 2015 to Aija Ryyppö (aija.ryyppo@oulu.fi ). You may find the instructions below.

 

The AXA Post-Doctoral fellowships amount €130 000 for the duration of 24 month:

Annual €5 000 for the costs of the research project, minimum annual €35 000€ for gross salary, maximum annual €25

000 to cover environmental costs directly related to the postdoctoral project. For details, please familiarize with the

The mission of the AXA Research Fund is to fund basic research dedicated to a better understanding of important

hazards, risks and threats and current global societal challenges within three clusters:

1. Environmental risks

· Climate change; glacier retreat, sea-level rise, extreme events...

· Natural hazards: earthquake, atmospheric & space-weather phenomena…

· Human driven environmental changes: urban pollution, nanotechnologies, pesticide exposure…

2. Life risks

· Aging & long term care: trends in individual longevity, age-related diseases, population demographics, public

policies…

· Biomedical risks: infectious diseases and pandemics, exposure to new technologies…

· Addictions and risky behaviors: psychology, biology, medicine...

3. Socio-economic Risks

· Geopolitical risks: access to natural resources, international and civil conflicts, political upheavals,

international security…

· Macro-economic and financial systemic risks: all uncertainties pertaining to relationships between economic

aggregates (e.g. national income, government expenditure, aggregate demand)…

· Individual and collective behaviors relating to uncertainty & risky practices;

· Large corporate risks: internal corporate governance risks, threats and challenges inherent to the corporate

environment…

· Digital risks: cybersecurity threats, Big Data related risks…

 

Eligible Post-Doctoral Fellow:

· must not be holding a permanent academic position

· has produced independently as a main author at least one international important publication without the

participation of the PhD supervisor in addition to other significant international publications

· starting a new post-doctoral project (not allowed to continue old one)

· must have been awarded her/his PhD within the 5 years preceding the submission of the proposal

· current international mobility: change of institution and /or country between current institution and targeted

post-doc position at the UO

· previous international mobility: minimum of one semester spent abroad since Master’s thesis.

Instructions

To get the best possible candidates as applicants, the interested research groups are asked to submit a max one (1)

page description of the candidate and the host as follows:

1. Post-Doctoral adviser’s name (at the University of Oulu), e-mail and unit.

2. Candidate’s name, degree (with date, university), current e-mail and full working address.

3. Short description of the research project of the hosting research group (at the University of Oulu).

5. Candidate’s list of publications

 

Please submit the documents (as Word) to Strategic Research Services (SRS) to Aija Ryyppö (aija.ryyppo@oulu.fi) as an

attachment of an e-mail latest on November 30, 2015.

SRS will preselect the proposals, and in collaboration with the Research Rector and Deans select the best possible

candidate(s). SRS will submit the name(s) and e-mail address(es) of the candidate(s) to AXA Research Fund. AXA Office

will contact the candidate(s) for further actions.
