We seek an enthusiastic and inquisitive student who is interested in understanding the role of herbivory, climate change, and wetland ecology and management in affecting microbial communities and carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas (carbon dioxide and methane) exchange in wetlands of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. The project will focus on waterfowl impacts on vegetation and implications of atmospheric exchange. This study does not focus on waterfowl themselves but instead on the ecosystem services of coastal wetlands in Alaska.
Utah State University is a highly selective, public, land-grant university and is classified as a Carnegie R1 Research University. The main campus is located in Logan, a community of 100,000 people. ________________________________ Input to the third Svalbard Science Conference The third Svalbard Science Conference (SSC2021) will take place in Oslo in November 2021. As in previous years the goal of the conference is to enhance cooperation and quality within Svalbard research, build and strengthen interdisciplinary and international networks and consolidate Svalbard as an attractive platform for Arctic research. The Svalbard Science Forum and the Research Council for Norway have started the planning process and are asking institutions and stakeholder with research interests in Svalbard for input and suggestions. They invite you and your organization to give suggestions for the overall theme of the conference, topics for individual sessions, keynote speakers and members of the scientific committee. The candidates can be from your own or other institutions or a representative from a large international science project or organization. We kindly ask you to include a few lines about the person(s) background and how they would contribute to the conference as well as consider geographical, gender and age distribution. Input can be sent to: ssf@rcn.nomailto:ssf@rcn.no?subject=Input%20to%20the%20third%20Svalbard%20Science%20Conference
________________________________ The Herbivory Variability Network The Herbivory Variability Network (HerbVar) is a global research network, established in 2019 at Michigan State University, that aims to describe and understand how and why patterns in plant-herbivore interactions vary across the tree of life and around the world. HerbVar focuses on variability itself, and aims at understanding what leads some plant species to have high variability and others to have lower variability in their interactions with herbivores. Specifically, HerbVar has three initial research questions:
* Is high variability (or skewness) a ubiquitous feature of plant-herbivore interactions? * What types of plants and ecosystems exhibit higher or lower variability? * What biotic and abiotic factors correlate with the distribution of herbivore damage? HerbVar is currently seeking collborators to collect data across the globe. You can find more information about HerbVar on their website (https://herbvar.org/index.htmlhttps://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flbhi.us19.list-manage.com%2Ftrack%2Fclick%3Fu%3D8b33ce2d31791c5fbd8da87bf%26id%3Dfaf6e1f00e%26e%3Dbd2b9d9d2e&data=02%7C01%7CMaria.Vaisanen%40ulapland.fi%7C4eee2f8741a64b4c2aca08d8631bd398%7C4c60a66f0a8d446e9ac0836a00d84542%7C0%7C0%7C637368318457641185&sdata=puIBtLbtte5WW5mnR8j4sv4tTLL5YwiudjoSHcR6Gy4%3D&reserved=0) or contacting Will Wetzel (wcwetzel@msu.edumailto:wcwetzel@msu.edu) or Moria Robinson (robi1169@msu.edumailto:robi1169@msu.edu).
