Special Edition Horizon Europe

This newsletter is dedicated to Horizon Europe to give you an overview of the programme, the upcoming calls and the support available.

What is Horizon Europe?

With a budget of €95.5 billion Horizon Europe is the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation. It tackles climate change, helps to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and boosts the EU’s competitiveness and growth. The programme is divided in 3 pillars, I Excellent science, II Global challenges and European industrial leadership and III Innovative Europe. In a nutshell, Pillar I is funding groundbreaking bottom-up research and researcher mobility, Pillar II funds large consortia solving grand challenges, i.e. top-down research topics, and Pillar III is reserved for innovations.

First Calls under Horizon Europe opened

The European Commission has adopted the main work programme of Horizon Europe for the period 2021-2022, which outlines the objectives and specific topic areas that will receive a total of €14.7 billion in funding.

To help future applicants better understand the programme and its calls and prepare their proposals, the Commission has published the Horizon Europe Programme Guide, which includes useful information about many novelties and horizontal aspects of the programme such as International cooperation and association, Gender equality and inclusiveness, Social Science and Humanities (SSH), Social Innovation, Ethics and integrity, Dissemination and exploitation of research results,  Open science and Key Digital Technologies.

Open calls

The first Horizon Europe calls opened 22 June with many of the deadlines in September-October.More information on the open, forthcoming and closed calls is available on the Funding and Tenders Portal.
