Dear colleagues,
mark your calendars - on the 7th of Dec, 2pm - 4pm, Tellus Backstage, we will have an interdisciplinary seminar where we hear about effects of early life experiences through the lenses of biology, psychological and sociocultural studies and medical sciences.
We have two very interesting talks and plenty of time for discussion:
Prof. Julia Jäkel (Univ. Oulu, Faculty of education and psychology) on "Biological and sociocultural risk and resilience from infancy to adulthood" "I will present examples of long-term developmental outcomes following biological and sociocultural early life risks such as preterm birth, early regulatory problems, institutional deprivation, or immigrant background. Effects of variations in environmental conditions such as sensitive parenting will be assessed according to resilience theory."
Dr. Emma Vitikainen (Dept. of Biosciences, Univ. of Helsinki and FinnBrain project, Univ. Turku) on "Early life experiences and ageing: an evolutionary approach" "The environment and conditions that an individual faces during early life have profound consequences for its later life. I will highlight what interspecies comparison can tell us about the general principles of life-history evolution, and the implications this has on health and ageing across species."
