Pete Manning from University of Bergen, Norway will present his research on:
Biodiversity and Ecosystem Multifunctionality
Biodiversity-Ecosystem Functioning research has shown that biodiversity loss can impact the capacity of ecosystems to deliver multiple ecosystem services at high levels simultaneously, a property known as ecosystem multifunctionality. However, much remains debated regarding this relationship including its relative importance in `real-world` ecosystems, the role of biodiversity in ecosystem service provision at larger spatial scales and the correct ways of measuring the multifunctionality of ecosystems and the impacts of biodiversity loss on society. In this talk I will present research that addresses all of these issues, drawing in particular from examples from the large-scale and long-term German Biodiversity Exploratories project.
