Welcome to complete the mandatory
“Basics of Data Protection for Personnel” training
The University of Oulu has published the new “Basics of Data Protection for Personnel” training, which you can complete
on Moodle at a time convenient for you. The training is mandatory for all employees and must be completed by 31 March 2026 at the latest.
The duration of the training is estimated to be between one hour and two hours and it comprises the following contents:
·
what is data protection
·
why data protection is important
·
how personal data is processed lawfully and securely
·
what is important to know about data protection at the University of Oulu.
The Basics of Data Protection for Personnel online training consists of the following parts:
1.
Sections 1-8 of the ABC of data protection training for public administration personnel provided by Association of Finnish Municipalities, Digital and Population
Data Services Agency, eOppiva and Ministry of Justice, and
2.
content produced by the University of Oulu in Moodle.
The different parts of the Moodle course platform go through the life cycle of personal data processing, starting
with the planning of the processing of personal data. On the course platform, we present the University of Oulu’s data protection policy and the university’s operating model for personal data breaches. You will also learn how to inform data subjects and to
conduct risk assessments. In addition, we will tell you from whom you can get help with data protection matters.
Please note that the new Basics of Data Protection for Personnel training must be completed by 31 March 2026 at the
latest, also if the employee had completed the old data protection training that will be discontinued at the end of September only recently. Conducting the new data protection training is important, as the new data protection training describes, for example,
the University of Oulu’s own data protection practices and guidelines.
Data protection is fundamentally a matter of fundamental and human rights. Data protection safeguards the rights and
freedoms of all of us, such as students, employees and persons involved in research, in the processing of personal data. By completing the data protection training, you ensure the up-to-dateness of your data protection expertise and promote the implementation
of data protection at the University of Oulu and more broadly in society through your work.
Thank you so much for completing the data protection training!
