ERC Trainings and Events in Spring 2026
Research Support Services will organise several training sessions and events in the spring to support researchers
who are applying for the European Research Council (ERC) grants. As ERC application templates have changed starting from the ERC Work Programme 2026, we recommend that researchers planning ERC applications – especially first-time applicants – participate in
these events.
ERC Accelerator Programme 2026 (register)
The purpose of the Accelerator is to inspire and support early-career researchers and those applying to ERC for the first time in developing ambitious research concepts with scientific impact suitable for ERC funding calls. In 2026, the ERC Accelerator sessions
will be held on Teams according to the following schedule:

ERC Online Training (register)
The ERC consultancy company Yellow Research will provide a two-part online training for the University of Oulu on 13–14 April 2026 (9:30–12:00), covering how to create a strong ERC grant application.
A recording of the sessions will also be available afterwards, but during the training participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Successful ERC Applications Reading Day (registration opens later)
The University of Oulu, in collaboration with the Research Council of Finland, will again organise a successful ERC applications reading day on
Wednesday, 27 May 2026. The event offers an opportunity to read previously funded ERC Starting, Consolidator, and Advanced Grant applications. The reading day is held on the Linnanmaa campus.

A chatbot guide to creating Impact in Horizon Europe Pillar II proposals
Horizon Europe Impact Spotter
The UOULU Impact Spotter is designed to support coordinators and applicants preparing Horizon Europe Pillar II proposals,
with a special focus on Research and Innovation Actions (RIA) and Innovation Actions (IA). Developed by the University of Oulu Research and Project Support, this digital assistant offers practical guidance to help users align their projects with EU priorities,
structure their proposals effectively, and maximize their impact narratives.
Key Features

Expert Guidance on Proposal Preparation: The chatbot provides step-by-step instructions for aligning your project with the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan,
analyzing call texts, building strong consortia, and organizing effective kick-off meetings.

Impact Section Support: Users receive detailed advice on distinguishing between results, outcomes, and long-term impacts, including how to describe the
scale and significance of their research. The chatbot helps applicants use correct terminology and structure their impact narratives according to the latest Horizon Europe requirements.

Open Microsoft Teams and go to the Apps section.
·
Search for "UOULU Impact Spotter" in the search bar.
·
Select the chatbot from the search results.
·
Click "Add" to include it in your Teams chat or a specific team.

Welcome to the EIC Pathfinder information session.
EIC Pathfinder is a funding program of the European Innovation Council (EIC), which is part of the Horizon Europe
framework program. Its goal is to support pioneering research and development projects that create breakthrough technologies and new innovations.
We will start the session with an overview of EIC Pathfinder, presented by Timo Hallantie, Head of the EIC Pathfinder
program. After that, we will hear perspectives from both an evaluator and an applicant. In addition, you will receive information about the University of Oulu’s commercialization services and our EIC support process within the university.
