Dear colleagues,

Biology Thursday seminar:  21st August, 12:15, on site in room BF119, with
Dr. Anu Valtonen, University of Umeå, on
"Recovery of biodiversity during tropical forest restoration at Kibale National Park, Uganda"

Abstract: Tropical forests belong to the Earth’s most biodiverse ecosystems. However, out of the original area, approximately one third has been already cleared and one third is in degraded state. As a consequence, there has been remarkable interest in restoring tropical forests, yet, it is poorly understood how efficiently restoration could bring back the diversity and networks of species interactions in these forests. In our project, we have been working in Uganda Wildlife Authority – Forests Absorbing Carbon dioxide Emissions (UWA-FACE) project area of Kibale National Park, Uganda. Our research project has studied how quickly and effectively active restoration drives recovery of plant and insect diversity, community compositions and food webs over three decades since start of restoration.
