Here is a kind reminder of tomorrow's (last) journal club session!
The topic is on shore bird dispersal strategies and implication for conservation.
We will meet at 10:15 in AT115.
You can find the 2 articles to be discussed enclosed, and more background reading on our moodle page.

Subject: [Biolphd] Next Journal Club - 13.12 - Causes and consequences of dispersal in waders; Waders = Winners?
The last Journal Club Session will focus on a specific aspect of shorebird ecology:
Dispersal in waders! The session is entitled 'Causes and consequences of dispersal in waders; Waders = Winners?', and we will discuss the causes of dispersal, the consequences for survival, the required behavioural adaptation, etc...
The session is on Friday, 13.12, 10:15-12:00 in AT115A, and led by Jelena Belojevic from the Wader Ecology research group.
We will discuss 2 papers, available on our
Moodle page (enrolment key: journal ) and enclosed here for convenience.
As a bonus, you can find 2 extra papers in Moodle for wider background readings.
The following questions will be our basis for discussion:
-
What are the costs and benefits of dispersal?
-
What are the causes and consequences of dispersal?
-
How can habitat structure and climatic events influence dispersal, and in turn population viability?
-
What could be some alternative (i.e. behavioral responses) to phenotypic plasticity in dispersal decisions?
Everyone is welcome without prior registration.
Thanks to all research groups and participants who contributed to bringing this Journal Club to life!
