The OpenVPN Connect client need a user specific eduvpn profile to work. The profile is valid for two (2) years. Once the profile has expired, the OpenVPN client will no longer open the connection, but will issue an error message “Authentication Failed”.

To avoid an error situation, check when you created your personal profile. Most created it quite exactly two (2) years ago.

The creation date appears in the profile name which you see when opening OpenVPN Connect application. See how to check your profile validity.

Create a new profile no later than when its age approaches two years!

  1. Create the new eduvpn-profile in the service https://account.oulu.fi/eduvpn. At the same time, remove your old profile from the service.
  2. After creating the new profile, bring it to OpenVPN client on your computer. Remove your old profile also from OpenVPN.

OpenVPN Connect -asiakasohjelma tarvitsee toimiakseen käyttäjäkohtaisen eduvpn-profiilin. Profiili on voimassa kaksi (2) vuotta. Kun profiili on vanhentunut, ei OpenVPN-yhteys enää avaudu, vaan antaa virheilmoituksen ”Authentication Failed”. 

Välttääksesi virhetilanteen tarkista, milloin olet luonut henkilökohtaisen profiilisi. Useimmat loivat sen melko tarkalleen kaksi vuotta sitten.

Luontipäivämäärä näkyy profiilin nimessä, jonka näet avatessasi OpenVPN Connect -sovelluksen. Katso ohjeesta, kuinka tarkistat profiilisi voimassaoloajan.

Luo uusi profiili viimeistään silloin, kun sen ikä lähestyy kahta vuotta!

  1. Luo uusi eduvpn-profiili palvelussa https://account.oulu.fi/eduvpn. Poista samalla vanha profiilisi palvelusta.
  2. Kun olet luonut uuden eduvpn-profiilin, tuo se tietokoneesi OpenVPN-ohjelmaan. Poista vanha profiilisi myös OpenVPN-ohjelmasta.
