Please see below an invitation to an ECR seminar on Arctic and alpine plant trait ecology at the University of Gothenburg! For any questions, please refer
to the contact addresses at the bottom of this email.
We are pleased to announce an
open invitation for early-career researchers (ECRs) to participate in a seminar on
Arctic and alpine plant trait ecology, taking place from
October 1st to 2nd, 2024, at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, sponsored by the Nordic Ecological Society (Oikos). This seminar aims to bring together ECRs from across the Nordic countries
(and beyond) to share research, engage in stimulating discussions, and foster collaborations in the field of functional plant ecology.
·
Dates: October 1-2, 2024
·
Location: University of Gothenburg (with hybrid options available for remote participants)
·
Focus: Functional traits in Arctic/alpine plant ecology
·
Format: Presentations, discussion sessions, and networking
·
Set-up: Lunch-to-lunch seminar, with dinner on the evening of October 1st
Program Overview (local times in the GMT +2 time zone) :
·
12:00 – 13:30: Lunch

13:30 – 15:30: Welcome + Presentations
·
15:30 – 16:00: Coffee/tea break

09:00 – 11:00: Presentations
·
11:00 – 11:30: Fika (coffee and cake)

·
13:00: Lunch and closing
We welcome
early-career researchers (Master students, PhDs, postdocs, and researchers in their early stages of their career after the postdoc stage) working on plant functional traits, particularly in
the context of climate change and ecosystem dynamics in Arctic and alpine ecosystems. This is an excellent opportunity to present your research, receive feedback, and engage with peers and experienced researchers in your field.
In-Person Participation & Travel Support:
For those interested in attending in person, we have
funding available to cover travel for up to six participants (on a first-come, first-served basis). Some funding for one night’s accommodation might be possible, please indicate in the sign-up
sheet if you would need this. If you need funding for more than one night, please contact us directly and we will see what we can do. If you would like to attend in person, we encourage you to express your interest as soon as possible, as spots are limited.
For those who cannot travel, remote participation is also an option, and we encourage broad participation from across the Nordic region and beyond. All
the presentations will be open for the online participants, and the online participants will form their own discussion groups (to get the best experience for both the in-person and online participants).
In-person participation will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis and probably be full before the 27th of September.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Gothenburg, whether in person or online, for what promises to be a productive and inspiring seminar!
