Hei,

here’s the spring 2019 biology course list for ECOGEN students. This course list is also for exchange students if not otherwise mentioned.

Registering for the courses and timetables are in WebOodi. Remember also to register in right exercise group, seminar, exam etc.. I have still to check the exam renewals from autumn and spring courses’ exams in WebOodi now (there might be some changes in exam dates if there are overlaps and possibly some renewals missing). There will still be also some timetable changes to minimize the possible overlaps.

Notice that registration period for some of the spring courses have already opened this month, some will open next year.

755329A            Methods in ecology II, 5 ECTS cr  (Rytkönen, Koivula) Compulsory to Ecogen major ecology

750678S             Master of science seminar, 5 ECTS cr (Muotka) Participate to the Ecogen student’s presentations and do the opponet and own presentations when the time is right with the thesis. Compulsory to all Ecogen students.

750662J             Research plan seminar (Kvist, Muotka) you can compensate compulsory master’s seminal listenings by participating to this. Put your name to the seminar list each time.

755333A            Basic identification of animals, invertebrate, 3 ECTS or total 6 ECTS if you have done the autumn part also (Koivula, Mutanen)

- 757313A         Basics in population genetics, 5 ECTS cr (Viljakainen, Kvist) Compulsory to Ecogen major genetics

757619S             Advanced course in bioinformatics, 5 ECTS cr (Watts) both ecology and genetics students can take this course (no prerequisites in bioinformatics)

750318A            Thursday seminar in biology, 2 ECTS cr (N.N). Timetable in Noppa.

750399A            Optional examinations in environmental protection (Taulavuori) 2-6 ECTS Book exam on certain university exam days, see WebOodi, registration in weboodi. Remember to write the teachers name and book when you register. You can do more than one book exam.

750649S            Examinations on optional topics in biology 2-10 ECTS cr. Student agrees with the teacher the book. Exam in examinarium, registration: https://www.oulu.fi/forstudents/e-exam . Remember to write the teachers name and book when you register. 2 ECTS = 100 pages. You can also choose certain book chapters if you do not want to do the whole book

757618S             DNA analysis in population genetics, 10 ECTS cr  (Niskanen, Aspi) Compulsory to Ecogen major genetics

750656S             Final examination in biology. Compulsory to all Ecogen students: genetics: Heikki Helanterä, ecology: Timo Muotka or Annamari Markkola

750313A            Project work (research group leaders). Exchange students: notice you have to have insurance (your own or home university’s), travel insurance is not enough. Ecogen master’s degree students are insured by the University of Oulu.

750615S             Practical training (Markkola). Not compulsory to Ecogen.
