Registration for the spring semester courses have started (courses in period 3).

Here is information on the courses that biology will arrange during spring term 2020.

Field of Biology Courses for ECOGEN international master’s degree students spring 2020

Registration for the spring semester courses have started (courses in period 3).

At the course list below I have added where it will be counted: Genetics / Ecology major OR Bioscience / Ecology studies or minor.

Genetics student can do optional minor in Ecology to the MSc degree and vice versa.

If the credits are 15-24,5 then the title is Bioscience / Ecology STUDIES. If the credits are 25 or more then the title in the diploma will be Bioscience / Ecology MINOR.

750654S Special lecture in biology: Microbial ecology 3 cr (optional to all, useful for both ecology or genetics major. Will be counted to the students major)

750318A Thursday seminar in biology 2 cr cr You can unite autumn and spring presentation essays: total 10 before you email them to Heikki Helanterä). Optional to all. Will be counted to the students major.

750678S Master of Science seminar 5 cr. If you do not have enough English given master’s seminar presentation you can add these and PhD seminar presentations (master’s seminar = 8 plan seminar listenings, 8 results seminar listentings, 1 plan opponent, 1 results opponent, own plan and results presentations. In this case you do not have to make an essay just write you name to the Thursday seminar book bookkeep the days that you participated). Start to do these listenings in the first year.

Remember to make your research plan presentation before you’ll start the actual thesis work and find an opponent. Agree with your supervisor a day that will also suit for your supervisor. More detailed seminar info is under construction in Moodle.

755336A Population ecology continues from autumn 10 cr (only for students who have started the course in the autumn or have already done the autumn part and want to do the spring part 5 cr) Compulsory to Ecology major, Ecology.

750349A Examinations on optional topics 2-10 cr (optional to all, either Genetics or Ecology, depends on the exam book. In Examinarium. Either students themselves suggest a book or ask the teacher a suitable book for the subject in interest. Minimum credit 2 cr. 100 pages = 1 cr (depending the book: if book includes big pictures, tables etc. then the requirement for credits is more.

Biology recommends that the students will start their 750658S Pro gradu thesis work 40 cr in spring or summer in order to get their degree finished in schedule (2 years).
