Dear colleagues,
the last Biology Thursday seminar of this year will take place 16th Dec , 12:15 (zoom link below), given by
Dr. Pizza Chow from University of Oulu / Max Planck Institute for Ornithology / University of Exeter:
Living in the city: An overview of urban wildlife cognition.
Abstract. Urban environments have a different landscape from
most, if not all, natural environments. Such environments pose a different type of challenges and opportunities for many urban wildlife species. In responding to these challenges and opportunities, many urban wildlife species have been shown to adjust their
behaviours. However, much less is known about how urban environments have affected cognition, a mechanism that is tightly related to behaviour. Here, I will briefly talk about the concept of cognition as well as the cognitive tasks that are deemed to be valid
in investigating urban wildlife cognition. I will then discuss the use of (inter- and intra- specific) comparative approaches that my collaborators and I have taken to advance the understanding in urban wildlife cognition.
