Dear Dr Aspi,
I am contacting you concerning Professor Niilo Söyrinki, who apparently worked as a professor of botany in Oulu from 1960-1971. I thought you might know about him, his legacy and, maybe, his relatives, due to his specialization in plant ecology.
In 1936-37, he studied plant communities and ecology of seed reproduction in the Bavarian Alps that resulted in this publication in German: Söyrinki, N., 1954: Vermehrungsökologische Studien in der Pflanzenwelt der Bayerischen Alpen. I. Ann. Bot. Soc. Vanamo (Helsinki) 27, 1: 232 p. Spangenberg. It is a quite detailed work with a lot of field material (pictures, vegetation surveys, seedling counts, etc.). Since he described the location of his surveys in detail, we would like to re-survey them next year, in order to estimate flora and vegetation changes caused by the recent climate change. I was wondering if you were aware of any his field books, pictures or herbarium specimen he collected during his work in Germany? I guess he took many more pictures as in the book; he also seems to be a very meticulous person, thus he might describe the plots even more detailed in his field books. May be some of your older, retired colleagues might recall anything related to his work.
I know that it has been more than 50 years, since he had retired, nevertheless I would appreciate it very much, if you could give some hints, where I can direct my research.
Sincerely, Sergey Rosbakh
