CALL FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS Ecology & Genetics Research Unit grant for completing a doctoral degree
APPLICATION PERIOD: 6th - 19th March 2023.
GRANT PERIOD: The grant can be applied for 1-4 months. The awarded grant period must be used within the time period 1st April - 30th September 2022.
GRANT AMOUNT: 2000 euros/month
TARGET GROUP: The grant can be applied for by a person who is in the final stages of a doctoral degree, who has been granted the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Oulu and is conducting her/his studies in biology and who will defend the dissertation in a public examination at the University of Oulu.
PURPOSE OF USE OF THE GRANT AND THE CONDITIONS OF APPLYING: During the grant period, the doctoral candidate is expected to complete the studies required for the doctoral degree and finalize the introduction of an article-based thesis.
The grant requires full-time working. The grant cannot be received at the same time as earned income from full-time work or another working grant.
APPLYING: The informal applications are submitted electronically via e-mail the latest on 19th March 2023 (jouni.aspi@oulu.fimailto:jouni.aspi@oulu.fi). In the application the applicant should describe her/his plan for completing the doctoral degree and describe the need for funding that enables full-time working and the significance of the grant for completing the degree. In the application the applicant should attach:
· intended original publications, submitted articles or their manuscripts (if available) or description of their completion rate
· manuscript or description of the completion rate of the introduction of an article-based dissertation (incl. literary review, aims, materials and methods, results, conclusions and discussion)/the completion rate of the introduction chapter of a monograph
· copy of the latest follow up meeting report
· copy of the official digital transcript of applicant's studies
FUNDING DECISIONS: The applications submitted by the deadline will be evaluated by the Ecology & Genetics Research Unit using the following criteria:
· the completion rate of the intended original publications (incl. manuscripts) of an article-based dissertation/the completion rate of the results): 0-5p
· the completion rate of the introduction of an article-based dissertation (incl. literary review, aims, materials and methods, results, conclusions and discussion)/the completion rate of the introduction chapter of a monograph; 0-5p
· the completion rate of the studies required for the degree: 0-5p
· the realism of the plan for completing the doctoral degree: 0-5p
· the need for funding that enables full-time working and the significance of the grant for completing the degree: 0-5p
The grant (1-4 months) can be awarded to 1-3 doctoral candidates. Priority is given to doctoral candidates who present a realistic plan for completing their doctoral degree in 2023.
