I will have my holiday 12.4.-1.6.2019 so here are the instructions for the graduation this spring. Do not hesitate to contact your supervisor, other teachers or Annamari Markkola, Seppo Rytkönen, Anna Maria Pirttilä, Emma Vatka and Lumi Viljakainen at the unit if there is something unclear with the graduation process.

Instructions for getting the Master's degree in spring 2019

For completing the degree in May, everything has to be done and accepted by 23.4. (Thesis has to be in Latury already). Graduation day is 23.05.2019. For the June graduation deadline everything has to be done and accepted by 13.5. Graduation day is 18.06.2019. Faculty has told that there will be possibility to get the degree certificate also at the end of July 31.7.2019. For that deadline the thesis has to be in Laturi at latest Tuesday 04.06.2019.

Notice that you need to load your thesis to Laturi latest 2-3 weeks before the pro gradu meeting. The referees have to have that time in order to make their assessment paper for the spring thesis acceptance meetings which are held 17.04., 09.05. and 18.06.

In order to get the permission to load the thesis to Laturi you'll have to send FINAL title of your thesis to your supervisor/professor and they will give the secretary Erja Vaarala the needed information. She'll open after that the Laturi system for you. If you have some difficulties with Laturi, contact their helpdesk https://laturi.oulu.fi/index.php?uilang=en-US Remember to use Urkund! REMEMBER TO CHOOSE THE OPTION:

- I do not wish that my thesis is made public available on the internet This is because in most cases your work is part of a bigger research project and the results that will be later published in scientific journals.

The dates for other courses are more flexible. For final exam and maturity exam in Examinarium, master seminar presentations etc. everything has to be done by 23.04. if student will graduate on 23.05.2019. For the 23.05. graduation day everything has to be done by end of May (more flexible dates for June than for May graduation). For the July graduation courses has to be done latest 18.06.2019. Master's seminars are held only in May.

Main point is that you do the OSAT application https://osat.oulu.fi/index.php?lang=en_US as soon as possible for example same day that you load your thesis in Laturi even if you do not have done final exam for example. Your need the credit amounts from your personal study plan. I have checked the PSP:s for those of you that have informed me that they'll graduate this spring (the PSP´s are in Compass, Erja Vaarala)

750632S Maturity exam for Master of Science degree:

The maturity exam shows that the student is well acquainted with the subject of the Pro gradu thesis and language. The maturity exam has to be four pages long (minimum length 3,5 pages), written in essay style. The essay will show a good command of the language and the topic of the thesis. Student will write only from the title that he/she is given. The exam time is maximum 4 hours. The essay must be analytical and harmonious unity.

Minimum requirements for linguistic form:

1. Handwriting readable, capital and small letters clear and word spaces distinguishable. 2. Writing has to be sectioned in distinct paragraphs. 3. Essay has to be titled. Content and title have to be congruent. 4. Student has to know basics of spelling and punctuation. 6. Word order has to be unambiguous. 7. Writing style has to be matter-of-fact style. 8. Essay has to be structurally outlined and consistent unity. 9. Examiner has to understand the written text. The writer must not suppose that the reader is familiarized with the student's thesis.
