We are seeking a doctoral researcher to join a Research Council of Finland funded project at the University of Helsinki investigating the genetic and molecular basis of colour pattern diversity in tiger moths. The position is available to start in early 2026, and is fully funded for 3.5 years. We will explore the genetic mechanisms controlling colourful wing patterns and the potential repeated evolution of novel colour pattern genes. The specific goals of the PhD project can be influenced by the candidate but could involve a mix of genomic analysis, molecular lab work, insect rearing, behavioural experiments, CRISPR, fieldwork and chemical analysis.
We welcome applications from candidates with:
* A strong interest in evolutionary biology research. * A degree in ecology, evolution or related field. * Interest in fieldwork. Basic bioinformatics or molecular lab skills are also beneficial. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
